"The heaven is high and the emperor is far away." Better to have an emperor that is far away than one that is right next to door.
Will that faraway emperor absorb all the lost trade (26.4% of total exports btw vs 15.8% to USA) and infrastructural investments then? Or that faraway emperor is only interested in maintaining PH as a meat shield and a brothel for his GIs & LBHs?

For such a Christian nation the Philippines should read the Bible well especially Proverbs 27:10:
Do not forsake your friend or a friend of your family, and do not go to your relative’s house when disaster strikes you— better a neighbor nearby than a relative far away
Knowledge so simple and obvious yet so many that just don't get it, the Bible folks found it useful enough to put the advice into their bible.

China will always dominate over the Philippines. How much so depends on China's strength and it's degree of dominance in Asia. And of course PH's own strength and allies.

That may be true from China's perspective as the biggest fish in Asia. Not sure how Koreans, and even weaker countries like PH feel about that. And the bigger the power disparity, the bigger the danger for a small/weak country to be trampled on.

How much do you really know about the PH sincerely? It seems that your knowledge of the country is cursory at best. The PH is the way it is towards China based off on the indisputable fact that it's an American colony that's pretended to be an independent country. To expect the PH to sing a different tune towards China with the lone exception of Duterte is very naive and lacks the appreciation of how strong American way of thinking and culture have totally permeated the Philippines.

Look at the Philippines culture, the only Spanish identity it kept is Catholicism that's it. Even the Filipino/Tagalog language had to be created in order for that country to have some sort of an identity and a language of their own supposedly when later on it adopted English as one of it's 2 official languages. One of it's former President last named Magsaysay was literally bitch slapped by his CIA handler to show who's the boss without repercussion to the CIA person. Does that show any "independence" to you? When the CIA offered the father of Singapore (LKY) bribe money during the infancy of the city-state LKY had the integrity and character to use that episode not only to embarrass the U.S. but to use that moment as his leverage to gain something meaningful for his poverty stricken new country. The same could not be said about Marcos Sr. who likened himself as the PH Abraham Lincoln (oratory skills) Thomas Jefferson as some sort of intellectual giant. Most Filipinos view that man as some sort of genius and a warrior which were of course a creation of fiction.

That's the reason why I don't have any respect to their political class, leaders, and system that's corrupt as ever, who's solutions to every problem is nothing but prayers and more prayers where any logical and rational thinking country would have given them ample evidence that such thing has yet to produce results. But there they are.

Your wishes don't change reality. As per IR, Philippines will balance China with the US. Even if Philippines wasn't a US vassal, it would still balance China by bringing US help.
Its basic geopolitics, no country wants a powerful neighbour.

Mexico relations with the US is also easily explainable. US has such an overwhelmingly stronger military that Mexico really has no choice than to accept the US status as a well deserved regional (and global) hegemon

For China to break out of the ASEAN balancing games, it needs a similar overwhelming military power that would make ASEAN shake on their boots by just hearing the word "PLA". That's the degree of terror Mexico feels towards the US military and that's the military development that China is undergoing now (even with such a low military spending per gdp)

China has ignored Canada for sometime now. However, Canada seems to determine to provoke China through false accusation and lies.

How dare you malign Canada's foremost intelligence/spy agency. No evidence is necessary since their report and word is as good as evidence itself. The MSS findings on the other hand are nothing but pure fiction based on the flawed methodology not to mention political system of Communism which is inherently corrupt, and most of all evil.

There is nothing wrong for Phillipine to counter balance China. See Vietnam. It is 100% in their rights and is prudent to do so. However the key word is "balance", not needlessly antagonize. The goal is to extract maximum benefits while maintaining independence, like Vietnam. This is not what Phillipine is doing.

I agree once China becomes the indisputable hegemon the calculation change just like Mexico-USA. At that point counter balance is futile and counterproductive. We are not there yet I think. Just need few years to go.

Brussels plans sanctions on Chinese companies aiding Russia’s war machine

Brussels has proposed sanctions on Chinese companies for supporting Russia’s war machine for the first time since the war in Ukraine began, a development that is likely to increase tensions with Beijing.

Seven Chinese businesses accused of selling equipment that could be used in weapons have been listed in a new package of sanctions to be discussed by EU member states this week, which has been seen by the Financial Times.

Some of the companies have already been placed under sanctions by the US. The EU’s move is likely to rankle with Beijing, which is anxious to keep Brussels from siding with Washington in their battle for global influence.

Brussels has until now avoided targeting China, arguing that no evidence showed it was directly providing weapons to Moscow.

The sanctions list needs unanimous approval from the 27 member states before it can be enforced.

Two mainland Chinese companies on the list, 3HC Semiconductors and King-Pai Technology, have already been placed under sanctions by the US. Two companies based in Hong Kong that are on the EU list are already on the US Treasury list: Sinno Electronics and Sigma Technology.

The sanctions proposal from the European Commission said: “In view of the key enabling role of electronic components for use by Russia’s military and industrial complex for supporting the war of aggression against Ukraine, it is also appropriate to include certain other entities in third countries involved in the circumvention of trade restrictions as well as certain Russian entities involved in the development, production and supply of electronic components for Russia’s military and industrial complex.”

King-Pai provides microelectronics to Russia that “have defence applications that include cruise missile guidance systems”, the US Treasury has previously said.

Brussels is also proposing sanctions on some Iranian companies involved in the manufacture and supply of drones to Russia.

The EU is seeking to tackle the circumvention of sanctions more generally. The draft includes measures that would allow the EU to restrict sales of certain products to third countries if diplomatic pressure did not change their behaviour. Member states would have to approve individual measures against companies or countries.

There are also powers to ban oil tankers that conceal their location without good cause from EU ports. The FT has reported that ships have been circumventing an embargo on Russian seaborne oil imports by pretending their loads are from elsewhere.

The commission has also proposed widening the range of banned exports to Russia.

It is also loosening restrictions on asset transfers to sanctions-hit entities to allow western companies in joint ventures with them to sell up.

The commission declined to comment.
