The reason why all of sudden so many African Americans and homeless people start attacking Chinese with no reason is because MSM is gone into rampant to demonize and demoralize Chinese.
If you think the US government is rational, then the US would not have done so many stupid things and make so many foolish mistakes. I don't know why you would buy into model citizens narrative as keeping your heads down mean that the politicians can come after you with no consequences. As much as you might disdain how African Americans fighting back racism with violent but they have effectively shown the government that they are a force to be reckon with unlike Asians that can put in jail or camp submissively.
You're assuming the US government is rational, when it's been shown repeatedly that politicians in democracies pander to hysteria. Ever heard of the phrase, tyranny of the masses? It was named after America:
When times are great, and resources are abundant, the majority can be generous, and swayed by virtue signaling to vote for laws that protect civil rights and help minorities. Tens of thousands were watched for sure, but only a small number were detain. My understanding was that most that got detained got suckered by fbi honeypots to make terrorist threats.
Muslims, Blacks, "Mexicans", Native Americans, Gays,Trans, Jews are just looking at us and saying "WELCOME TO THE CLUB" Our rights will be infringed and we will live under authortarian rule as tension increases and murica copes, but to say we would be arbitrary detain in mass would be a bit much. The conflict would be near nuclear at that point and you wouldn't have to care much of anything else at that point.
Maybe the Asian American here are "new" and had some weird dream of the US being the greatest but Asians had always had it hard growing up in the US until the golden years of 2000-2020. And Its always been crappy for the millions of asians living outside of the asian bubble metros.
The Chinese have always been willing to pick up and leave. So time to save $$ and do your research. As I said elsewhere, someone needs to get the Chinese govt to setup a way for repatriation.

Just a superficial opinion from myself, as I never bothered to find out what this American government legislation is all about. That legal stuff is more boring that economics you know, heh.
Just my opinion is that this RESTRICT act by the US Congress, they are trying to elevate everything to be a national security issue. Whether they will succeed, probably not.
It is like a world of endless lawsuits.
Now that really is dystopia.
