Apparently another Balloon was spotted over Venezuela
I think also 15KM. It was above J-10C's operational ceiling so they had to go with a missile shot. Back when J-6/7 were the PLAAF mainstay they dealt with balloons by boost climbing and shooting the target with cannon. Needless to say the window of opportunity is very narrow and the aircraft is at risk of stalling during this dangerous maneuver.

Balloon update. One over Costa Rica as well for reasons unknown. If these are off course weather balloons then they are very large for that purpose and to lose 2 at the same time is...misfortunate. OTOH, what the hell is worth spying on in Costa Rica?

This had better not be a fail intercept of the balloon or some kind of friendly fire due to people being jumpy.
