I live in Japan. There’s been absolutely no coverage from any mainstream media, not even a faint hint, about restrictions beyond rare earths. It’s as if those 167 pages of documents simply don’t exist.
Also, Minister of State for Economic Security, Minister Onoda, seems not to even understand what rare earths elements are.
And on top of that, news about an experimental research vessel heading to “Minamitorishima,” about 2,000 km from Tokyo and in 6,000-meter deep waters, to attempt a trial RE extraction from the seabed has been pushed
very widely, as if it’s some miracle cure that will solve Japan’s rare-earth shortage by next month.
