You are talking about the middle east where places like Saudi Arabia and Dubai waste loads of money flaunting wealth buying golden cars and overpaying for celebrities to go there. Where victoria supermodels go to get literally crapped on at parties.

Get real. People have eyes you know. If anything it sounds like being overly religious there is just used to cope (and possibly to suppress) for the lower class poor people while the much richer ignore most of the religion and live the western lifestyle they want. I'm a hard religious conservative guys! It totally has nothing to do with my social standing! Basically sour grapes.

Japan and China both considered the West as beneath them culturally, but still were forced to open up and eventually modernize. Japan did it faster with the Meiji Restoration while China had to overthrow the Qing dynasty first. Still, Qing officials used to emphasize their customs and outrageously different clothings when dealing with foreign officials (while signing incredibly humiliating and nation-selling treaties of course), but its just a useless self aggrandizing attempt at denial.

Just 40 years ago too, when mainland China experienced perhaps the lowest comparative economic and military standing to not only the west but also its immediate neighbours in the 80s, there was constant reference to ancient greatness of the Tang dynasty or the great inventions and economy of the Song, how ancient China invented this first and used that first, etc. But everyone knew that the west and Japan completely surpassed us at the time.

China of today no longer need to flaunt the glory of the past dynasties or the four great inventions all the time now. China has actual confidence in both its modern strength and historical greatness. There is currently a great revival movement of Hanfu going on in China right as we speak (traditional hanfu is way better looking than the Manchu stuff to be honest). This movement is not some clinging to past greatness but actual realization and rediscovery under true confidence.

Indians and Arabs still live in unequal and non-modernized states stuck in that phase of delusional denial. They cling to the old ways and the cultural superiority because they know that's all they have, and deep inside they feel so insecure that they keep flaunting wealth and power constantly.

Indians, Iranians and Arabs may voice some anti-imperialism rhetoric here and there, but by their actions it clearly shows they actually look up to and idolize the West, and would absolutely like to buy into the western-centric world order as long as they are guaranteed a higher place than the "others". If it weren't the fact that the imperalists are imperializing them so hard that they have no choice but to scream back a bit, they'd happily act as sepoys as long as they are not at the bottom of the totem pole.
