My first thought after Trump won the election was Biden might try to burn the house down before Jan, my second thought was it would too good to be true.
People make interesting decisions when desperate I guess, like Japan deciding to attack Pearl after oil embargo, Russia has over match at every escalation level, Ukraine giving Russia casus-belli for going to the next level, right on the precipice of losing life support, after ensuring the entire world blames them for it, and in a slap to Trump's at a personal level just a few month from him taking office, is certainly an interesting choice.
At minimum it just means Trump is now more likely than ever to abandon them, and if Russia in the extremely unlikely scenario actually nuking a Ukrainian city, neither Trump nor anyone else will come to help them now. Plus, Zelensky just became dead man walking, Trump certainly won't protect him now.
This is also an interesting observation on western pattern of thinking, it means when Taiwan comes up the west has a realistic chance of taking more suicidital paths if only out of ignorance, or arrogance, or both, China should keep this in mind and make sure such a path is prepared for them.
