Love reading the comments to this article. It demonstrates the narrow-mindedness of American logic. I don't know if what the daughter says is true but that's not the point. She's saying the Los Angeles Times is not endorsing a Presidential candidate simply because he's against genocide. Many of the comments which have to be pro-Harris don't understand how does being pro-Trump help against genocide? It doesn't. If what the daughter says is true, the Times is not endorsing anyone at all because they're both pro-Israel which means they're both pro-genocide. Now you understand how Americans think they're the good guys and could do no wrong even though they engaged and is implicit to genocide past and present. Somebody has to be the bad guy and they think it's not them because how can there be two bad guys. Guess what? There can be and especially two bad guys. Bad guys seek power for themselves so its entirely possible to have two bad guys or even more. Americans don't want to think that because that means that's an admission they can be the bad guy too. That's why they think in black and white. There can be only one good and one evil. So since they think they're the good, it means everyone they don't like has to be evil. They claim they believe in freedom yet they deny something as simple as choice. You have to do everything they say because they're the good guys and if you don't, it's because you must be the bad guy. It's the lazy way to be in control. Their brains are incapable of comprehending there can be more than two sides.

Do they support Turkey in Brics? I remember last turkey election, i think an opposition candidate said he will build trade route from Turkey to CN thru Iran? If i remember correctly...

Is it? You don't think the US could offer them things to sabotage BRICS? You don't think that they would put price tags on every step of thier cooperation? Not being loyal to NATO did not stop NATO extracting appropriate benefit engaging with Turkey compared to ignore them. I fail to see how this example works. China can extract benefits without loyalty.

Do not mistake engaging with Turkey equal full membership. They can participate without giving veto power. I used to worry about Chinese official getting duped like the past. But given China had warned against tech transfer to Turkey and India, I am sure government knows what they are doing. Otherwise they wont engage Saudi Arabia, another nation known to be two faced, just to lesser extent.

I actually sort of agree with you on memberships. It should be one of limited access. Only very select members get it. Kick India, keep watchful eyes on Brazil, limit core member expansion.

Engage every rational entity, gatekeep core member status.

The problem with that, is that would make it a game of solitaire. The West only plays it against itself. Others like Russia and China, just wait around, wait for the fog of war to reveal itself, then they make a move.


This tightening of rare earths and critical minerals by China, basically screws Western industry, and those are rather advanced industries.

This I would interpret it as a pre-emptive strike against any further trade tensions that should be coming.

China is still playing fairly lightly, and not hitting very hard yet, but this does really screw things up for others.

This is where the plot thickens. A trade war when the economy is trying to make a soft landing in America, and while the European economy is slowing.


By making this move now, IMHO, the next move by China, that next one will make them hurt. This is just some shelling before the actual attack.

Then again, if they relent and there are no more Western sanctions against China, then who knows if things will change.

The PRC does not engage in these types of fights to prove a point or to protect themselves. They will make them bleed.

We see what happens next over the next few months.

Hanlon's Razor would suggest that the reason is very simple: Americans, politicians included, are complete garbo at math. They can't even apply game theory, something they invented, better than the Chinese. See cases where the US was the first mover but lost out to the Chinese having more robust and sophisticated implementations; this is a consistent trend.

Countries will have low and high points, mostly because the rulers are self-complacent. Chinese invented gun powder but the one who could use it effectively is the West. China knows about binary system back from I Ching but the one who invented a computer is the West.

True. Now do you see anything similar between the current US and the late-Qing? The relative strength of competing nations will change over time, it's a matter of who learns from mistakes and adapts better.

Quite similar but not the same. At least the US is still relative strong, far more strong than the late-Qing. The late-Qing transformed China to a completely barbarian state.

I can well believe Hanlon's Razor being applicable. The politicians at the very top are stupid. The analysts may be able to give more or less reasonable analysis but that doesn't help if the decision makers are stupid. Or the other possibility which I think is just as real and likely is their unconscious racism. They just cannot accept the data even if their own people present it, and instead they reject it as incorrect or based on fake or inaccurate numbers from China. I'm reminded of Hitler either rejecting the report of how many tanks the Russians were building, far outstripping the Germans, or dismissing them as rubbish that would not stand against German quality. That is the same kind of mental gymnastics I have seen done online even by otherwise seemingly reasonably intelligent people. At an unconscious level they just cannot accept that the Asians and especially the Chinese are outperforming them. They may resort to the tired excuse of it being solely from industrial espionage and copying. They may grudgingly concede some points to the Japanese or Koreans as US allies but still often with the excuse that they only succeeded because of US help.

That is why I am pessimistic about the US or EU getting the hint from light Chinese countermoves. They won't take it as a warning shot and back down. They'll think "Is that the best they can do?" I think it will take a massive crushing blow to crush their delusions of grandeur, but I am not sure what magnitude of blow is necessary. Previously in a post I suggested whether something as extreme as a Chinese Star Destroyer hovering over the White House or over Westminster is what is needed. Western white supremacism and racism is that ingrained at a subconscious level.
