My gut says a lot of that capacity at Huludao will be used to produce more than just SSNs or SSBNs.
If you think about it, UUVs will soon be as important as airborne drones today.

It make sense to build out spare capacity as a contingency.
Look at the CCTV newsreel where they report production capacity of up to 1000 cruise missiles per day, if this is required.
But actual production is nowhere near this level.

They need to build more production bases for SSNs and SSBNs, rather than concentrating in the same location.

Nice explanation of reading how China's economy is doing by comparing it with how the US economy works is wrong. Why doesn't China put emphasis on pumping up the stock market as the US does to which all the pundits in the West demand China do? Maybe because 70% of people in the US have an investment in stocks in some way or another while only 10% of people in China do. How the Chinese stock market is doing doesn't really matter on how well China overall is doing while in the US, they financialize everything with an emphasis on stock value.

I think John J. Mearsheimer is actually quite hostile to China. He wants the war in Ukraine to end ASAP, so Russia can be united with the West in their opposition to their "common enemy" China. He can keep dreaming.

He does seem like as compared to other commentators to be the most hawkish when it comes to china but he is also the one who is the most delusional when he can’t quite get it through his mind that given the harm done to Russia via the USA that that ship is sailed away with no way of changing the status quo for at least a generation or two. Also he is the one who is the mostly likely to breakdown as well given how things are rapidly falling apart for the likes of him. In an away, his superstar status in China could be proportional with the amount of bad news in regards to the US he is now sprouting. If he is sprout bad news about China that is actually true, he wouldn’t be any way near as ‘popular’
