I think it's safe to say you've crossed the point of trolling when you tell someone that they are wrong about the composition of their university class that THEY ARE ATTENDING IN PERSON.
I was mostly comparing with US. EU is kinda irrelevant as far as top contender goes. No, EU are 450 mil.
Semiconductor: Advanced optics components by Germany's Zeiss and system integration by Netherland's ASML. No relevant fabs or chip designers.
Aerospace: airbus is civil market leader, mediocre elsewhere.
Pharmaceutical: good research, but I dont think they are relevant as far as product goes.
So only Airbus is relevant for competing China. I expect its dominance ends when C929 show up with CJ2000. Then China would be on par. I say give it 5 years or so.
Boeing is a zombie at this point, not a long term competitor.

I don't know what he was getting at in talking about minorities being less than the seem; we all argue with statistics anyway, now how many we think we see out of 100. But anecdotal evidence on how your class was composed can't be used and applied to the whole of the US. That should have been his reply to you but he's incompetent so he tried to say there were somehow less minorities than you counted personally because a survey showed that a group of Americans who thought that 30% of the country resided in NYC couldn't count right.

Airbus/Euro copters are among the leaders in Civil Aviation. Europe is also ahead in business Jets.
Widebody certification takes way longer than one else. i would say parity in 15 years minimum if they can make flight with in 5 years. Europe has more institutional experience. the key is how to maintain such experience on such scale for generations.
During America's industrialization era, in the late 1800s to early 1900s, some of America's brightest weapons designers: Benjamin B. Hotchkiss, Hiram Maxim, and John Browning have all moved to Europe. Hotchkiss and Maxim setup their businesses in Europe, while Browning went to work for FN in his later life. It is quite ironic that the US Military had to import the Maxim Gun and its technology from Britain, when it was invented by an American-born person. So, things are not as clear cut for the US as you are describing it to be.
Europe prefers to buy HSR from their own firms, because they have already invested heavily in their development. That is why even the Japanese Shinkansen was not selected in Europe in the first place. How about the mighty USA? How many HSR lines have it exported to Europe or around the world? As of 2024, America has no operational HSR line with the benchmark 300km/h speed on its own soil.

That is because after the US Civil War ended the demand for modern weapons in the US basically collapsed. At the same time Europe was in a massive arms race. It was just much more profitable to be a weapons designer in Europe back then.
