What is so special about Ozempic/Wegovy drugs? Are the generic versions just as good? Do they have the IP for these so-called generic versions?
I'm sure the generic versions will work just fine, as any well made generic is. Generics are available when the IP for the brand name drug has expired, so IP is irrelevant here.
I don't really get the flak Ozempic catches. It's a good medicine, helps people lose weight and lower blood sugar. Humans evolved to eat more than we need and store the extra calories as fat because food until very recently in human history has been scarce for most. It was an evolutionary advantage, something that offered a survival benefit. Now that we live in a period where much of the world has far more food than is needed, our innate desire to eat more is a maladaptive behavior, a disservice to our health. GLP-1 analogues like Ozempic help counter this maladaptive behavior.
Why take an injection when you can just diet? Why write a book on a computer when you can just write it with a pen? Like any other human invention that's become popular, it's just easier.
