tbh I see the whole Olympics obsession as pathetic and cringe. I mean, I get it, for some entertainment it's ok, but when you see people even in this forum getting so obsessed with it, it's sad.

with so many posts and fights, you would thing a new military technology was developed or that new advanced semiconductor equipment was developed.

For all I care US can win 100 - 0 in gold medals count. These records are worthless and trash except to quickly satisfy a few bursts of patriotism, that's it

The good thing about China is it can do both. It can get loads of Gold medals AND also be a leader in tech.

Don't need to cope like Indians and say ackshually saar we don't care about the Olympics coz we are too busy being CEO of American companies or whatver. Which is obviously a cope coz look how many Indians stayed up to see Neeraj the javelin thrower get his record broken by some guy from Pakistan.

It's funny reading comments from these NAFO keyboard warriors railing against one of the very person responsible for keeping Ukrainian military avoiding a catastrophic loss against Russian initial massive cyber security attack on its line of communication (cutting off the important command and control, logistics) during the invasion via STARLINK. Not to mention the real-time supply of data through the use of X (Twitter) that is useful on spreading misinformation, disinformation, against the Russian forces, public a.k.a. Cognition warfare.

Europeans are beyond deranged from countries and an entity that's devoid of actual leadership; ranging from software application technologies which are all AMERICAN PLATFORMS, to a clear SUBORDINATION of their country's geopolitics and geoeconomics that's anchored firmly with the mighty U.S.A.

They bark as if they're powerful when they're nothing but powerless chihuahuas.

I mean, she's half-white and her values is also mixed with American when it comes to dating/sexual proclivities which frankly is none of our business. But because she's a national icon especially in China and seen as some sort of a role model for many young girls and women in the country the scene of her supposedly making out with the French swimmer (whom made unsavory actions against a Chinese athlete and coach) is pretty upsetting.

Her social media action against Marchand to show her artificial support for China and then to turn around by literally getting dunked on and eventually literally bodied by the same French man that many Chinese people despise is literally akin to China getting D...k on for good measure. Especially against a person considered close to a national treasure. But what we can say to this situation is akin to a Christian Bible proverbs that comes to mind: For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other.

Eileen Gu she f...d up. And now must pay the price for the consequences of her actions. Her choice of men is her business and the choice of whom the Chinese throw their support to is equally theirs.
It’s honestly China’s own fault for putting a half white American woman as the role model for its girls in the first place.

This particular pattern of family structure (half white American) is absolutely notorious for producing children who replicate the self-hate/white worship of their Asian side and this is something we’ve seen again & again in the Asian American community. This fact was ignored by Eileen’s supporters in China at their own peril, and now they have to deal with the consequences of once again brain washing Chinese women to worship whites.

It’s the Chloe Wang (Bennet) story all over again. Only difference is Chloe duped the Asian American community while Eileen targeted Chinese in China. In the end, it's just another reason to have confidence & support your own people rather than look for heroes and heroines among other countries and peoples. There is no reason at all why China should be establishing white/half-white Americans as its icons (and this includes people like Elon Musk).

I mean she did win 2 golds and 1 silver for China without demanding THAT much. Keep in mind at the time, this was the first time China hosted the winter Olympics and didn't have much winter talent. She provided her services to China winning two golds and a silver which allowed China to actually beat USA in ranking when it mattered most. (until that doping case was decided two years later which few care now)

As a mercenary she's is pretty good value for money. But as I repeat Machiavelli again, mercenaries are only good for short term solutions. If you rely on them long term, you will never have security.

Wait a minute... Gu Ailing was (is still?) a legitimate Chinese citizen, holding a Chinese passport when she competed for China in the Winter Olympics. She was only still 18 (or slightly below it) that time. According to Chinese law one is automatically a Chinese citizen, when one or both the parents are citizens. And only upon reaching 18 years of age would one be required to renounce any dual citizenship.

She wasn't a "merc" 2 years ago, and China has every right to call her up to represent her country then.

Like I said, it was a case of using it while it lasts. No one can predict exactly how the future would pan out. If it doesn't work out long term, then so be it, people will move on.

Unlike others I never believed she really gave a crap about China and was just using it as an opportunity. Theres a reason machiavelli warns again using mercs. He said it's a short term thing at best.

However the fact is she earnt 2 golds and one silver for China over USA in the last Winter Olympics. That allowed China to beat the USA in ranking until recently. That's a contribution that cannot be ignored. And if she does it again that would be like 4-5 golds to China.
It's not that I give a damn who she kisses or some crap like that. It's that it's blatantly obvious she's western at heart but pretends otherwise. China should never have allowed someone unqualified to compete in the first place. It's just embarrassing to have someone so clearly token Chinese and unloyal represent the country and be labelled a "role model" for the youth etc. We're not after medals for the sake of medals, we're after fair medals earned by true Chinese. If we were that desperate to pad the medal count at all costs, might as well dope, bribe the judges etc.
