While I am in engineering / tech, I have seen people I know in finance / consulting who fit the mould you described above rise to high positions (director, head of xxxx, etc).

By 'useful' I mean 'using your company clout / knowledge to grease the wheels to make things happen or so things go smoother', which builds a 'this guy makes things happen that others can't and gets people to do things I / others can't get them to do' reputation.
Do not take a 'let me take this on, and I'll fix it for you in my own time' approach, because this will build a 'here's a guy I can just exploit when I need, he won't complain and is easy to push' reputation. The first approach adds mega points to your rep, the latter will put you in the corporate version of the friendzone.

It also helps to become, at least partly, 'one of the boys' (i.e. able to joke with, speak on a cordial and equal footing when not receiving orders, and able to have a genuinely enjoyable time) with your immediate and adjacent superiors (and their superiors if appropriate) as this really builds trust and an 'I like this guy' recognition. If you view them as adversaries, then that will show through no matter how much you try to hide it.
You still can have excellent interpersonal relationships with individuals, regardless of your views on their society as a whole.

Reason for me saying all of this is that I just wanna see a brother succeed, and if it has been done before it can be done again.

One thing I need to make clear is, if in your heart of hearts you do not want to pursue the leadership route, then do not force it and pursue whatever technical or other endeavor you feel most comfortable with. At the end of the day you need to enjoy the limited time you have available, others' views are ultimately immaterial and unimportant.
Thanks bro, appreciate the heads up, but in my experience and perhaps australia is singularly a racist society for this, is that the attitude of white men in corporate when working with Asian men, is always one of insecurity, fear and opportunistim, hidden behind disarming false smiles. In my experience of friends and familes in engineering et al, the culture tends to be more casual and there is a sense of camaraderie that is not present in corporate finance and consulting, especially when females are in these corporate spaces along with utterly stupid nepotistic workers.

One thing i will impart for anyone who needs to take the corporate route as part of their wealth strategy is to never give them ie the company, the higher ups etc an inch, never admit fault, never show weakness. As an Asian man, you'll have a lot of white karens, male and female who will want to take you down a peg over something about the work or otherwise, because due to our boomer parents generation, they think asian workers will always defer to authority figures, and they want to get that power fix and think Asians are an easy target.
Don't let them have that satisfaction, make the experience as horrible for them as possible so they leave you the F alone, cuz caving in and agreeing with them, like in some Asian companies for the sake of a team leader's ego, may work in Asia but it certainly doesnt work in the West, especially in anglo companies. You must fight for everything, never admit fault, cover your arse and take everyone down with you using all legal and corporate avenues. And in a weird psychosexual way, they will grow to respect you from the experience.

Personally, like all millenials i have no desire for the leadership route, corporate for me is but a means to an end; you look at most asians in corporate banking or finance or otherwise and see them go off and work part time whilst they start up a new business, fulfilling their own sense of purpose and i can empathise as well. Corporate for me is just a way i can tell the bank "look here, i has a stable job, now loan me money for a mortgage". Why put energy into entities controlled by insecure anglo companies and their pet indian middle managers who are constantly threatened by the mere presence of an asian man?
This goes without saying. But it's easier said than done. Even if you try to kiss ass or whatever, of the upper guys don't feel comfortable in your presence for reasons you can't control then you get nothing.

For example if they decide they just don't like asian looking faces, it's tough to overcome such prejudice. Maybe for lower roles but once it gets to the upper parts where the pyramid gets smaller then you are out of luck. That's how TSMC started btw.
Bingo, anglos have a deep seated fear of asian faces given that they have lost more than a few wars and engagements against asian nations who were at that time, already on the backfoot. Australia for eg is a culture that is defined by a fear of Asia much like how Rhodesia was founded as a british colonial outpost in africa. Personally, i find the more acceptable aussies are the apolitical types but even then it's a stretch because after initial pleansantries, they will soon discover you as a competitor for jobs, positions, real estate, and even women. You haven't done anything wrong, you simply exist and much like China's existence is a direct threat to anglo american hegemony, your very existence living your life, dating, etc is a threat to an insecure anglo.

Now combine this phenomenon in an anglo society increasingly filled with school shooters and Incels:

An increasingly wealthy and powerful Asia will soon cease to become the last resort of the low status white male with no prospects of finding a mate. This is one of the few things that a lot of white men on tiktok, youtube and instagram have dreamed about, this war against China to find meaning in their otherwise empty lives.

If talking about C-level or similar, then yes, I agree. But that's to be expected, just like a white american would not ever lead SMIC, no matter how much he could show he was 'Chinese'.

However if we're talking about promotion to upper middle levels (e.g. director / exec / head of) then it is not the same and people should not automatically assume its the same and preclude themselves.

Take a look at the corporate boards of most of the major consulting/finance/insurance firms on the S&P500 or ASX200; i hazard a guess most of the board members hail from any of the Five Eyes with perhaps the odd indian or chinese woman to staff an utterly useless department like DEI. Invariably, there is a type that occupies these board positions: Anglo, or european; australian companies tend to be predominantly south african white jewish or otherwise. Now there's a difference between these types of companies which are focused more on the softer skills as opposed to TSMC or Nvidia which must necessarily be led by scientists and engineers. The moment a tech/engineering company gets led by the McKinsey consulting types you get Boeing.

In your field, engineering, the results are obvious to all if one is competant. In softer fields like finance/economics etc, it is heavily dependant on your networks, especially if you're from the favoured race.

For some reason, I've rarely experienced this, and I'm not sure if it is due to being in a tech dominant industry or something else. I once had to deal with an insecure manager, but he was very easy to 'win over' because it was very clear what the specific root causes of his insecurities were in each situation. All other staff (specifically locals and non-Asian immigrants) have never tried to take me down a peg.

Just curious - what's the ethnic makeup of your friends? Mine (now) are mostly Chinese, ABC or other east asian, and peripherally some locals. I'm pretty sure I openly give off an "identify as Chinese" vibe, however I have never had any punks try to cause trouble on the basis of race regardless of who I am with (male or female).

Also, I know this is off topic, but given the upvotes on similar topics, I feel this adds value to the discussion, at least for now.

Yes, at board level it becomes political, so I do not expect it to be the same. Universities, despite being merit based, are the same at that level - politically influenced.

Also, regardless of what position is held, you can use your position to effect positive change. Now what that positive change is will differ from person to person, but in any position you should aim to use the hand you have to its maximum potential.

Actually, why not just embrace it? Just play the game and if they try anything, have the proof or ability to show it was racial discrimination or some other cardinal corporate sin, and they'll go real quiet / get fired or disciplined. There's a real satisfaction to winning, and watching suckers looking at you legitimately and faultlessly enjoying the position and/or property and/or partner like Nicholas Burns looks at Xi.

Cue the Conan quote:

I believe it's a difference between sci/tech/hard sciences/engineering and banking/finance/insurance. It's harder for loquacious bullshitters to talk their way out of Chernobyl the same way they have BSed their way out of the innumberable corporate F ups and financial crises since.

My friends? Mix of both asian and white and i rarely if ever mix these circles of friends because there are some thing you can talk about with asian friends which you can't with white friends becuase they've never experienced discrimination. Hell, once i broke up with a Australian girl who didn't understand the inherent racism in 'Cloud Atlas', but onto the matter of ethnic makeup of friends, it's mainly asian and white in a country which claims to be as multicultural as australia. In fact, i've dated Chinese girls as well, and even studied and spent a year in China with family and relatives so i like to think i'm connected with roots and very aware of the impact that an anglo society would have on an asian person disconnected from their asian roots.

Re white friends, i have noticed that a few of them are visibly silent and uncomfortable when i rock up with a decently attractive white female, like not even an FHM model, just girl next door type like you'd see on The OC or Home & Away. When i was younger and more naive, i didnt think much of it, but given the passive aggressiveness, i recognise it for what it is.

Impression i get in the world of corporate banking/finance is that the qualities that they look for in middle management/team leader type roles are the school suckup/teacher's pet/kid who reminds the teacher they forgot to assign homework type individuals and it is exceedingly rare that you will get a team leader who sticks up for you. Is it a coincidence that indians are highly selected for such roles? I do find it significant that the required character attributes and personalities do tend to match.

To be perfectly honest, the Conan approach is the correct human approach for lasting peace from a historical point of view; exterminate the enemy men, impregnate the surviving females, and kidnap and train the children to identify as the victors... and castrate all the boys as well. It's what the Conquistadores did and what they had planned for China as well after taking the Philipinnes. It's certainly how the Anglos and the Five Eyes got their current territory. Why shouldn't China take those continents to grow rice and rear livestock for another billion Chinese?

What is Vietnam’s strategic interest. Why hasn’t it fully aligned with China already. By most logic, China is the bigger neighbor, communist brother in arms, better economy, more powerful military.
It's in their interest to be strategically balance, to get the most from both sides. Vietnam is an independent country, unlike many European countries and japan and south Korea, which are de facto controlled by the US.

By your logic, why hasn't other counties fully aligned with the US policy? Like Brazil? Malaysia, Indonesia? Or even Turkey and Saudi Arabia (supposed US allies)?

You might be more 'Chinese' than I am, and for that I am slightly jealous. You must have excellent Chinese reading / writing skills.
This may sound harsh but I see white friends as second tier friends due to being mutually less dependable and relatable, and I never talk about anything politics related.

It's ok to adopt practices and behaviors that just work for a given scenario - remember that at end of the day what you receive for it is for your own benefit. It doesn't matter if the cat is black or white, as long as it catches mice. Even if that cat makes you feel slightly <insert adjective>, just think - would you rather the benefit goes to yourself or to someone that is actually disgusting?

Approach that always works - be a chad, don't take things personally, and care less - you'll find all sorts of people get drawn to you / want to follow you.

Once a war progresses to the point that they're drafting these 'men' dregs, I will buy a fishing boat and join the maritime militia just for the chance to use surplus Type 81 (or even Type 56) to mow down these suicide retard legions.

They dream about war against China because they think it will be like call of duty where they can rack up easy kill streaks against loads of Chinese. If they knew they could die just as easily they would think twice. Hell that happened in the Korean war against a much worse China so they needed to make up excuses like there were too many of them (which shouldn't matter right since your dream is to kill so many).

That's their real face. They want to hit but not be hit back. It's why they are backing off against Russia because their soldiers (under cover) are turning up in body bags and dying like dogs to Russia artillery, missiles and drones.
