That is my interpretation of events.
The CCP could have just arrested one Canadian, but they arrested two Canadians. Some people in Canada said that that was to show China had more power, but regardless, the arrest of a Canadian(s) makes the good old fashion prisoner exchange possible.
The CCP are not naive people, and they know crap, they get around.
The longest extradition case in Canada lasted over 10 years, with all the appeals. It was just a murder case, and they manage to drag that out 10 years. Meng Wanzhou case is much more complicated.
There are rumours that in 10 years 6G could be coming. They arrested her over 5G roll outs presumably.
Don’t buy into the western MSM BS that the ‘two Michaels’ were just the first two innocent Canadians the evil Chinese found on the streets.
There have been around 200 Canadians in prison in China on average for years, and I’m sure more than 2 of them would claim to be totally innocent of whatever it is they are charged/convicted of, but don’t remember the Canadian gov or western world giving a solitary fuck. Funny how these two get such special treatment.
Both their backgrounds and occupation inside China practically screams intelligence agents, which was why they were on China’s radar to be picked up immediately. Chinese intelligence were probably monitoring them for years, and would have continued to do so for years more, but a more pressing and important need for them arose.
Part of the reason Canada is going nuts over them is in part due to them being Canadians, but mostly because they are Canadians spies, and they are worried what secrets they might be giving up while in Chinese custody for such long times.
