That is a cope and you know it.

This is what I like to say about that.

In my day, there was no such thing as this cope.

Even though it may be true today this thing call cope, if we look back and apply roughly the same standard, then the last 6 to 8 years of the Vietnam War was a cope.

That is too far for me to go.

Hope we understand each other on that point. Although you very well might be right. Times change.

Instead of having to live with permanent enemies, better for them to not exist. Although they are too weak to be a threat, given opportunity they will start shit. May as well take care of them while in position of strength, especially after bigger threats are neutralized.

I thought this was a good article on the complexities of the Chinese-Vietnamese historical relationship. It has been 1000's of years of ups and downs.

Generally historically speaking, Vietnam has welcomed Chinese culture. The level of dislike right now is a lot of modern reinterpretation.

It's just the interpretation of the modern Southern Vietnamese faction, which the viet communists didn't get rid of.

As China itself continues to spread influence directly through ploys and passively through economic osmosis, it will naturally change and Vietnam will again return to cheerlead on China as it always has during times of strength.

China only colonized Vietnam in the sense that Vietnam was not populated by organized peoples until Chinese expeditions came there. The modern Viet is for the most part a descendant of those colonists, having a culture similar to older Chinese culture rather than tribal viet native culture, living under a China inspired government. In essence being to China what Australia is to the UK, separate, but their modern population owes their existence to the original country.

Gotta be a permanent stationing of nukes off Cuba, to remind the anglos of the folly of another Cuban missile crisis.

as Ritter pointed out, the anglos wish they were as large and as cohesive as China, they want to be a “civilisation” b7t there is nothing inherently civilised about Anglo American history, culture or norms.

Anglo culture, like japanese culture is wholly derivative and unoriginal; the Anglos aspire to be like the ancient Greeks and Romans despite being "barbare" during Roman times, as the Japanese aspired to be Imperial China. Even the american concepts of freedom and liberalism had their roots in european humanism which was in turn directly influenced by Chinese Confucian ethics and relationships.
