What is this forums take on Europe's decline??
I can say that after the start of the 2022 Ukraine Conflict, Europe's decline is terminal.
Is Europe's decline only economical??
Or are they falling behind in influence, military and technology as well??
Europe already started to decline economically since the 2008 financial crisis and the 2009 Eurozone crisis. They have been going downhill ever since. Brexit, Covid, Ukraine, and Cold War 2.0 are only just accelerating the process.
The War on Terror, Arab Spring conflicts, Ukraine conflict, and the Gaza war had severely discredited European moral legitimacy. It had exposed them as neo-imperialists who also happened to also be getting more incompetent as time progresses.
Europe is severely lagging behind in software, semi-conductors, and consumer electronics. Nevertheless, I still think that Europe holds significant technological advantages in several other areas like IC engines, Turbine engines, aviation machinery, lithography machines, and particle physics. CERN in particular, has no known rivals in the East. So despite the general European decline, CERN is still attracting talented physicists from around the world to do their research there. In Asia, China has been talking about build the next super particle-accelerator, the CEPC, but until that becomes a reality, Europe still holds the lead in particle physics research.
Military technology wise, I think Europe only has some pocket success stories like the FREMM program, Type 212 diesel sub, MBDA Meteor, Storm Shadow, NLAW, etc. But these are only decent for today's battlefield. What Europe doesn't have are enough weapon projects for the future. Europe is heavily reliant on the US for much of its defense procurement, and that had made them either lazy to R&D, or bullied out of the market by the American defense firms. Military technology is one area where Europe would actually be in deep trouble, if not for American support.
