The idiots do realise that by flying Chinese flags, they essentially make themselves fall under Chinese national jurisdiction and laws right?

Technically, China would be well within its rights to land marines on any and all such ships and seize them as Chinese property.

What the article says is that they actually reflag to China and become Chinese shipping vessels. (presumably, the companies can do this because they're international entities)

Remember as well that the British Insurance Houses like Lloyds were the ones who financed slavers and Opium Traders to China back in the day and who suspiciously are refusing to designate shipping to Israel as uninsurable considering the war and terrorism exclusions common to all insurance policies.

If Chinese insurers can also break the british monopoly in shipping - which is only a matter of time considering China is the largest trading nation on earth and may soon have the most if not already possessing the most shipping vessels outright in conjunction with BRI railways- then that would put paid to the rentier anglo zionist elites.

Speaking as an actual Taiwanese, i would consider this nothing less than a betrayal of the Chinese people both on and off the island; already i can see at least 2 generations of my family brainwashed by colonisers, with my grandfather who i respect so much who was brainwashed by the Japanese colonisers and by my parents' boomer generation who are similarly brainwashed by enemies of China, in this case the Anglo Americans who are merely the heirs of the same British opium traders and pirates who bullied China along with the rest of the European powers.

If you allow this affair to continue for too long, you will have Taiwan going the way of Annam which became Vietnam or Outer Mongolia, even despite china's massive soft power pull for Chinese speakers. The Anglos will turn Taiwan into the Sinosphere's hermit kingdom, a nuisance 'north korea' to China, the way north korea is to the US.

I pose that question and scenario no matter how remote the possibility due to the fact that America/west are really great with cultural, political, economic, and ultimately complete subversion of a disputed place. Like the case with Ukraine's Donbass, South Korea, Japan, Europe, Latin America, Africa, the Philippines and TAIWAN.

Kinda reminds me of Taiwan "foreign ministry" tweeting in Japanese to offer solidarity everytime Japan has a crisis including this earthquake. DPP basically has no shame
