Lmao look at Campbell and Blinken's reaction. Burns, Kerry and Kritenbrink are just starting in disbelief. Those two ladies were also present in the meeting with Xi, does anyone know who they are?Lulz, I think he just undid a lot of hard work by diplomats.
This here is exactly why Xi no longer holds press-conferences after these types of meetings. The purpose of media is not to inform but to act as spoilers who ask provocative questions to publish clickbait articles.Lulz, I think he just undid a lot of hard work by diplomats.
I'm sure Campbell and Blinken and Burns etc all wish Biden would also no longer hold press conferences. This here is exactly why Xi no longer holds press-conferences after these types of meetings. The purpose of media is not to inform but to act as spoilers who ask provocative questions to publish clickbait articles.
Blinken is getting "sigh, I am going to get spanked by Wang Yi once again" Vietnam flashbacksLulz, I think he just undid a lot of hard work by diplomats.
Joe Biden and Xi Jinping agree to resume high-level military communication
US President Joe Biden and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping have agreed to resume communications between their countries’ militaries at a summit designed to stabilise relations after several years of rising concern about a possible conflict over Taiwan.
Just the fact that they are being adequately pressured into making public promises of that sort, however empty, is a signal to the rest of the world that one party holds the position of strength, and it is not dementia president.I don't think China gets much except empty promise of One China principle. As anyone important in the US that needs to go to Taiwan has already gone to Taiwan. Biden administration can now reassure China that the US would continue to adhere to the One China Policy. In addition, it is an election year, so Biden administration would avoid to provoke China in the Taiwan strait. That's about it.
Although, China has never cut off communication channel between the US and China for a very long time. So it is a matter of time before the communication channel would be restored. Of course, most Chinese observers probably think it is not a good idea. I concur but it doesn't really matter either. Nothing positive or meaningful would ever come out of re-engagement with the US as the US is too polarized and politicized at the moment.
Chinese Discrimination Act but the media is awfully quiet because Chinese is third class citizens.
