I.. uh, I don't really understand what the US is trying to accomplish here. It's not as if they can actually walk anything back before the next Presidential election.

I’m pretty sure the meeting with Xi would not have been granted without some pretty substantial and concrete concessions from the US to justify it. Just what those concessions are might not be made public for quite some time, if ever unfortunately. Since the Americans are so desperate to save face, they will desperately want those concessions kept secret, whereas China don’t care about all the peacock parading in front of the cameras if it gets substantive results behind the scenes.

Hand over Taiwan and drop any sanction first before any meeting. The Chinese is being way too generous with these bastard. That's why they became a joke during the Pelosi saga. Blinken is a clown. Xi wasting time meeting with a clown.

I wonder if they will have their own Lin Zexu. On the note of comparing US politicians to historical Chinese figures an interesting one I heard recently is Marco Rubio is a lot like Qu Yuan in that in his unwavering nationalism he spends day and night drafting anti-China legislations but it's all for naught because the people in charge don't have the balls to actually go through with decoupling and is in fact dying to talk to CPC, as we are seeing in real time. That be the case Rubio should stay away from holidaying near the Great Lakes so he doesn't decide to throw himself in one day and the grieving people have to throw hamburgers into the lake after him so that the fishes don't eat his body.

I don't know anything about sociology but is admitting in a million people, who are culturally very distinct from both the existing populace and a good chunk of other immigrants, every year to a country of 37 million a good idea?

It didn’t take much work for him to get a meeting with Xi. China still wants to work with America. I doubt America will grant any meaningful confessions.

Before every planned Blinken visit there was some type of drama (spy ballon, announcement of sanctions, spying from Cuba). It’s all designed to throw China off.
