Earlier drafts sent at the end of last week specifically called out China’s “anti-competitive and harmful non-market policies and practices,” particularly in the area of more mature semiconductors. The newer draft omits any specific mention of China.

The US also wanted to call out China and Russia for “economic coercion.” The newest version mentions the problem but avoids calling out the two countries.

Some EU countries were also upset that language on outbound investment controls went further than that agreed at the Group of Seven summit earlier this month. The US saw the G-7 agreement as a floor to build upon, while for most in the EU it was a ceiling, the people said. The final text is in line with the G-7 wording.

Originally, the US and EU wrote they have an “interest in preventing the narrow set of technological advances that are assessed to be core to enhancing the military and intelligence capabilities of actors who may use these capabilities to undermine international peace and security, from being fueled by our companies’ capital, expertise, and knowledge.”

Posted before, but had a question about this.
Why is China Eastern using Traditional characters for their name? Does anyone know? I've asked this before but didn't get an answer.
99% of the usage of Traditional (as far as I can tell) is related to history or artistic purposes, but they aren't some 100 year old company, nor is their logo particularly artistic.

I'm sorry but which angry militia is going to shoot down Putin's plane? Dont become a sister stereotypical as the westerners you deride, Africa isn't some place that's full of "militias", outside of a handful of countries the continent is largely peaceful and Putin can cgo to South Africa and nothing will happen to him.
It was a sarcastic comments not some sort of blaming on any Africa countries... The US are good at making excuses when they shot planes or drop bombs...there's always some kind of imaginary militia or group waiting to act.

More or less the same happening in Mexico and Columbia where they blame the cartels and Farc for any wrong doings... In the middle east it's surely ISIS or some terrorist groups. Most likely funded by Iran...

Like that they can do what they want with impunity from their own populations that will swallow it like sweet honey.

thanks for paging. BMW USA says that they exported 227,029 vehicles worth $9.6b in 2022. it comes to avg price of $42K.
The total overall Plant economic impact is $26b a year. Is there such numbers for BMW China?

Since 1992, the BMW Group has invested nearly $12.4 billion in its South Carolina operations. BMW Manufacturing is the largest BMW Group plant in the world, producing more than 1,500 vehicles each day. The plant is an important part of BMW’s global production network and plays a critical role in meeting the high demand for BMW Sports Activity Vehicles and Coupes in the U.S. and around the world.

I think Germans are sitting in two boats but how long this can continue. US/Mexico/Canada will definitely gain big edge over Europe both in population and economics.

Two American officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations, expressed their frustration about how EU officials were trying to remove references to China that closely mirrored hawkish public statements from von der Leyen. They questioned what was the purpose of the Commission president taking a harder line on Beijing if it was not followed up with robust commitments.

The West is truly drunk with their own propaganda about themselves. What we're seeing is the stereotype of the child of a rich person taking over their family's wealth and business. They did not earn their position. It was given to them. The choices they make are based off of arrogance and not experience and they're running their family's legacy into the ground.

Look at how the West's strategy with the world basically all centers on a single simple notion. Being accepted by them is the greatest gift of all that everyone in the world treasures and wants. Why do you think the US thinks it can make the world choose a side? It's because they think being accepted by them is so important that it'll go their way. Why does China loom over all their pacts and alliances? Because they're all, first, elitist clubs that are frustrated that China is too big for them to be ignored. They want to tell everyone in the world that they're important while everyone else is not. It just ruins it all that they need China. If they didn't, China wouldn't be looming over all their gatherings and meetings. If they didn't need China they would've already decoupled and not spend all their time over verbiage spinning it on de-risking instead.

They did say that was their plan earlier this month.

The first is to limit China’s access to cutting-edge technology, which includes preventing Beijing’s development of advanced technologies and strengthening export control laws.

The Europeans will eventually give in. It always happens. So it seems like it won’t be long until the US hawks demand China dismantle their semiconductor industry with sanctions and probably looking to ban on all lithography exports.
