Huawei/ZTE no longer selling new base stations for mobile communication/internet in Russia ?
Huawei is basically complying with US sanctions on Russia. After all these years they still have not achieved technological independence. As for ZTE they even have US spooks on their administration board courtesy of Trump.

Russia basically cancelled their 5G rollout and are going to develop their own 4G equipment. Since most of their existing 3G equipment is Ericsson, Nokia, or Huawei, it is going to cost them quite a lot to upgrade the entire network to 4G.

A juxtaposition or further insight in light of the recent Saudi-Iran peace agreement from Col. Zhou Bo interview regarding the security issues and challenges pose by Iran amid the Great power competition between China and US. What role does China intend to play in the Middle East, Israel. Talked about the recent China visit to Saudi and GCC meeting.

The interview was published 5 days ago.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that formerly both the PRC and ROC attempted to induce defections from the other with promises of rewards, but the practice was ended decades ago by mutual agreement.
Well, the difficulty of defections is pretty much dead at this point anyhow.
You can literally hop on a boat from Kinmen to Xiamen at any time or a flight from TPE to PEK.
It would still be embarrassing, but I don't think either side would really want the publicity other than maybe something crazy like J-20.

Civilian side, the wages of mainland are getting to be much higher than Taiwan, so the DPP government made it a criminal offence for engineers and scientists from pursuing employment on the mainland

I think DPP would kill to have this agreement on this

This guy explained it pretty well:

To put it simply - One is a master, who forced two of his servants to hook their little fingers; The other is a friend to both parties in conflict, who helped both his friends to shake hands.

This is the fundamental difference between the two scenarios.

For a F-16 eggs, pork bellies and even cash aint enough, gotta thrown in marriage with a state sponsored supermodel wife as incentive to defection
For that old airplane? Nah... you get some food, a regular job, and a modest apartment. Marry a state-TV level supermodel? Maybe if you fly a B-21 prototype over here and that's if you did it with the right intent, not just some dude who wasn't happy with his life so decided to give the biggest FU he can muster to his former team. The recent defector, I don't know about him. If he did it because he didn't like how things were going on his side, then he's a nobody. If he did it because he was always undercover and finally completed his mission or if he realized that his duty and allegiance should be placed towards his fellow Chinese countrymen, then he deserves a reward. Reward heroism, not opportunism. The Chinese scientists who worked from their day of graduation to the day they take their last breath pushing forward the nation's rise in critical tech including military tech deserve the best wives. The Chinese soldiers who stake out in the coldest mountains, who fly against the deadliest Western threats deserve the best wives.

Now the Australia media in the spirit of McCarthyism are now calling for the head of former Australian prime minister, Paul Keating

Truly stupendous, the Australian media is trying to create an atmosphere of hysteria to get their war on China

in the meantime, in case anyone missed it, Trump released his Anthem with the aid of January 6th martyrs. Very Purge like i must admit

This Saudi-Iranian agreement is of tremendous importance. I have a lot of thoughts about it but in order to keep the post short I will only mention a few of them. Funnily enough I won't focus on China's benefits, only for SA and Iran:

A short background: SA and Iran have been in secret talks for over a year already, but talks seemed to have stalled at some point. IMO Saudi Arabia wanted something out of Iran (Yemen issue?..), but Iran didn't want to give in, and even if it did, SA wouldn't trust Iran as it has a long history of breaking agreements. What's new here is the third party that got involved, China.

From SA's side
  • MBS has a long term plan for SA to become an economic power. When he got wind of the news that Israel and US were planning an attack against Iran, he noped the fuck out because he knew that these two would attack Iran from safe homelands while SA would get slaughtered by Iran which is next door
  • SA has been historically at the mercy of Western countries blackmailing it with letting Iran "loose" if they didn't follow Western orders. MBS just turned over the table, dealt directly with Iran and is now giving a giant middle finger to Western blackmailing.
  • SA doesn't trust Iran, so it asked China to take active part in the deal so that it pressures Iran to hold its end of the deal
From Iran:
  • First of all, the recent news from Israel and US probably sounded as death bells for Iran. They probably knew that its do or die time (not saying that they are out of the woods yet, but there is a possibility they may have foiled US/Israel plans against it).
  • China sent a very clear and, unusually, loud message to Iran during the Gulf-China summit. In China's vision for a future Middle East, Iran current actions aren't aligned with it. Either Iran had to change policies or it would have to watch China increasing relations with the Arabs.
  • Iran's international strategic environment has been deteriorating. Iran either had to adjust its policies or it would have been surrounded by the US, Israel and the Gulf States.
China's gains and importance are worth entire posts by its own, but I will just say this. China wasnt just a simple mediator. I would bet real money that behind the scenes, both SA and Iran requested China to take an active part so that they could trust that the other party wouldn't break their promise. The extend of China's involvement will remain secret, but there is no doubt in my mind that, if not the most important, it has at least played a huge role here
