Doesn't matter how junior the politicians are. So a Chinese politican can go to Hawaii or Guam, stir up hatred there and make claims on the territories, take photo with armed rebels, after US did not permit them to go there, just because they are junior?

Well the problem isn't importing the onions per se, rather the timing of it that really screws with the local market and farmers right before harvest time, so they have to sell early while the crop is not even ready meaning even less profit if at all, or simply at a loss lest they lose the whole crop to cheaper imports which would be an even bigger loss -
