Separately, Vance and Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg with questions about the department's oversight of the U.S. freight train system and “how it balances building a safe, resilient rail industry across our country in relation to building a hyper-efficient one with minimal direct human input.”
Unless China explicitly forbids the export of materials and components to these companies, this is a nothingburger. Also, it takes two to tango. Why is Taiwan not being hit by sanctions for buying?China Hits Back at US with Sanctions on Lockheed, Raytheon
Yeah. Taiwan likely agreed to pay a few more millions. And McCarthy was likely being ambiguous in order to get more money. This is how it works nowadays. Taiwan's entire foreign policy is built on paying Western politicians to visit them. The USA is endorsing this because it damages Beijing's credibility.
Chances are Pelosi(?) and McCarthy visit isn’t entirely related to Taiwan is paying them. They could be going there to set the preparations for the real visit. The Congressional Delegation. Guess it won’t be long until the Senate visits and the US President goes as well.
Congo demands US$17 billion more in infrastructure investments from China deal
Congo's state auditor has demanded an additional US$17 billion of investments from a 2008 infrastructure-for-minerals deal with Chinese investors that is currently being renegotiated, documents seen by Reuters on Thursday (Feb 16) showed.
President Felix Tshisekedi's government has been revisiting the deal struck by his predecessor Joseph Kabila under which Sinohydro Corp and China Railway Group Limited agreed to build roads and hospitals in exchange for a 68 per cent stake in Sicomines, a cobalt and copper joint venture with Congo's state mining company Gecamines.
Under the Sicomines deal, the Chinese investors committed to spending US$3 billion on infrastructure projects, but the state auditor - Inspection Generale des Finances (IGF) - demanded that commitment be increased to US$20 billion, to reflect the value of the mining concessions that Gecamines contributed to the deal.
Should be fined for that though. If Congo fulfilled its obligations and Sicomines didn't spend the promised $3 billion, they are in fault for thisSo far, Sicomines has only spent US$822 million on infrastructure investments, according to the IGF report seen by Reuters.
Israel-China free trade pact expected this year
Israel and China are close to completing negotiations on a free trade agreement, which could be signed this year. The Chinese had planned for the pact to be signed last year, but the lockdowns because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the inability to conduct face-to-face meeting led to delays in the talks.
Within the next two months, a further meeting will be held between the teams formulating the agreement. Internal sources describe it as "one of the most decisive meetings", at which further technical details will be ironed out. The agreement is expected to upgrade trade between Israel and China, which is now Israel’s main trading partner
The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor stated in response: "The negotiations on a trade agreement with China are proceeding according to the original timetable."
