America isn't run by old men though. The Soviet Union had old leaders, but they still had gravitas and they were still leaders. Biden is just a figurehead, all decisions are made by people around him.
It's most similar to the era of the dynasties when a child Emperor would be controlled by his court eunuchs and advisors.
Yeah. Taiwan likely agreed to pay a few more millions. And McCarthy was likely being ambiguous in order to get more money. This is how it works nowadays. Taiwan's entire foreign policy is built on paying Western politicians to visit them. The USA is endorsing this because it damages Beijing's credibility.
Small countries or groups trolling larger countries is the most absurd thing with Pax Americana. Almost in all cases they are left to fight alone after a point. Then they get absorbed by the polity they were trolling. If they win (basically not getting eaten 100%) they declare victory on ruins of their cities. Taiwan is playing the same game too. Their outcome will be the same too.
