Yup. That is the difference between China and India.

When Apple goes to China and demands 'Apple Standards', the Chinese government and Chinese companies agree and cooperate. They learn that they were not up to standard, and they worked hard to achieve 'Apple Standards'.

When Apple goes to India and demands 'Apple Standards'. The Indian companies argue to Apple that they are the ones who set the standards instead. When Apple complains, the Indian companies cry to the Indian government. The Indian government then tells Apple that it is being too harsh on the Indian companies, and tells Apple to follow 'Indian Standards'. Because apparently 'Indian Standards' is world class, flawless, and must be 110% better than Chinese standards. Indian Standards will not change for Apple, it is sacred for India.

Apple could either lower itself to 'Indian Standards' and suffer the reputational loss, or continue to rely on Chinese-made component supplies into India to keep their standards up. Choosing the former would be unacceptable for Apple unless it gets a new Indian CEO. Choosing the latter would keep Apple's production cost in India higher than in China. So Apple (and Foxconn) is gonna learn the hard way why GM, Ford, Nissan, Carrefour, Lafarge, Docomo, and many other MNCs decided to evacuate India after spending some time there.
China also benefits from having a stable legal system with almost no national security exceptions and strong rule of law.

As an American company, you know that in China, unless your company personally commits a crime, you will not be punished randomly becomes of the whims of an unfriendly government.

The CPC does not view domestic companies as their "champions" but rather as capitalists of any other sort, bound to the same legal confines as any other capitalist. So they will not move to protect them other than in cases were criminal acts happened.

When Chinese companies make a deal with foreign companies, the government is not involved besides setting the legal framework which is equally enforced for both actors. So there is a high, near absolute level of predictability. Companies like stability and predictability.

Instead of short sighted boosting of companies or sabotaging foreign rivals, the support which the communist government provides aims at creating the conditions for innovative companies to start up, what then becomes of those companies is their own matter - if they are unable to overcome challenges, they will always be replaceable by newcomers.

The East Palestine Disaster is a litmus for which politicians are beholden to Norfolk Southern and which ones aren't. Even though I am not a fan of the likes of Ilhan Omar, I appreciate her integrity on this issue, unlike Buttigeg who is undoubtly the bottom bitch of the Norfolk CEO.

This might end up being worse than 911 and Chernobyl combined

For the moment, the more important thing China needs to do is to halt agriculture imports from the affected regions. There are too many unknown risks.

Until the government takes action, private individuals themselves should organize to catalogue and avoid goods from the regions, else the export of tainted items may cause a new health scandal in China.
Dioxins formed by burning vinyl chloride can travel long distances in the air and water. When dioxins settle in the soil, they stay there for decades as they break down very slowly. Dioxins also bioaccumulate in animals, meaning any livestock raised using feed from the affected regions will also have high risk.

The deliberate release and burning of vinyl chloride took place near the border of Ohio and Pennsylvania, in the watershed of the Ohio river, which feeds into the Mississippi river. So in terms of dispersal by water, the downstream states are Ohio, West Virginia, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana. For dispersal by air, the downwind states are Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and the New England states.

Agricultural products from these regions and animal products from livestock raised using feed from these regions should be carefully tested, tracked, and monitored for the next several decades to ensure their safety.

China needs to turn Ohio into a propaganda win like the US did with Chernobyl

Openly call out their cover up in the UN, ban Ohio food products, call for independent investigations and foreign observers etc

Make steps to keep this in the media for weeks. Don't let the US sweep it under the carpet with bullshit balloon distractions
