Good to hear your family are fine. Thanks for asking. Yes. They barely noticed it. They live in Western Turkey.
The combined death toll will likely go over 30,000 and there will be at least 150,000 injured. Southeast Turkey is relatively poor and most buildings are cheaply built 4-7 floor brick buildings. In rural, there are still mud brick buildings. Northern Syria is even worse. So even an earthquake of magnitude 5 is problematic there. Two earthquakes of magnitude 7.8 are horrific for those regions.
So what is the real fallout here?
The capital markets in India will suffer, probably lose FDI
Regular people invested in Adani will likely lose their paper gains and anything they borrowed on the basis of this (This is hard to measure)
However, Adani itself will still have much of these tangible investments
I'm going to copy paste what I wrote on an another forum so that people here can get a sense of the tragedy:Thanks for asking. Yes. They barely noticed it. They live in Western Turkey.

I don't think it's appropriate to talk about this now.Any idea how the recent Turkey earthquakes might affect the election?
If Erdogan handles it well he could turn things around (since he's currently projected to lose)

I'm from the epicenter of the earthquake and my relatives like many others were asleep when it happened. Thank God that they weren't harmed but my grandma's sister broke her back and her children were injured. I've heard that they were stuck under for a while but thankfully they got rescued later and are currently waiting for a doctor to get operated. There are thousands like them who are either injured or under rubble.
People like me who live abroad are having trouble reaching out to their relatives/loved ones in Turkey.
Hundreds of buildings have collapsed. Hell, even my old apartment which I lived in up until like 3 years ago has collapsed.
The sad part is, most of this destruction and loss of life could've been avoided had the government invested more in appropriate measures.
It will be good PR work by working with those South American countries peaceful revealing these balloons are just weather balloons. It will contrasts the militaristic actions the American took and the constant Spy Balloon lies their msm keep spewing. How naive this is? If it is a weather balloon, do you think other countries don't know about it. Most countries don't care except 5 eyes and a few of their allies. US wants to hype the threat of China but ends up making a fool out of itself.
Now the US is under a full blown damage control by claiming nonsense such as China's meteorology minister is fired or the shooting down of the balloon has been a victory and humiliated China. There is so much insecurity that it is not funny anymore.
I swear to the old man up there, I will find a way to stop paying taxes. These idiots are fleecing us off while wasting that moolah into garbage projects. How bout funding the NHS or putting some money to tackle the homelessness crisis, what about drug rehabilitation and counter narcotics efforts? Pathetic failed smug little island country still nostalgic about it's previous role of an Empire in the world. Ancestors cry.
