This is even more comprehensive than just China-Saudi oil trade in yuan. Xi included ALL GCC nations to trade oil and gas in yuan through the Shanghai Exchange.

After sanction after sanction on China’s tech companies and supporting Taiwan independence, China has taken the gloves off.

Can some of our forum members finally agree not to hyperventilate every time China gets tech sanctioned or some politicians fly to Taiwan now?

I don't believe that Putin did not know the ruse for a second. Nobody would believe just words without materialistic guarantees, state affairs or personal affairs. As an individual one would not lend some money without a written contract and collateral.

Putin is just doing the victim thing, it is to justify everything he does now. It is also an excuse to refuse "negotiation" proposal from the west, such as Macron's signalling few weeks ago. It is also a bargain as "give me something real since I don't trust you".

It is just diplomatic maneuver, everybody does it.

The Minsk agreements were a series of international agreements which sought to end the Donbas war fought between armed Russian separatist groups and Armed Forces of Ukraine. The first, known as the Minsk Protocol, was drafted in 2014 by the Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine, consisting of Ukraine, Russia, and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), with mediation by the leaders of France and Germany in the so-called Normandy Format. After extensive talks in Minsk, Belarus, the agreement was signed on 5 September 2014 by representatives of the Trilateral Contact Group and, without recognition of their status, by the then-leaders of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and Luhansk People's Republic (LPR). This agreement followed multiple previous attempts to stop the fighting in the region and aimed to implement an immediate ceasefire.

The agreement failed to stop fighting, and was thus followed with a revised and updated agreement, Minsk II, which was signed on 12 February 2015. This agreement consisted of a package of measures, including a ceasefire, withdrawal of heavy weapons from the front line, release of prisoners of war, constitutional reform in Ukraine granting self-government to certain areas of Donbas and restoring control of the state border to the Ukrainian government. While fighting subsided following the agreement's signing, it never ended completely, and the agreement's provisions were never fully implemented.

Amid rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine in early 2022, Russia officially recognised the Luhansk and Donetsk people's republics on 21 February 2022. Following that decision, on 22 February 2022, Russian president Vladimir Putin declared that the Minsk agreements "no longer existed", and that Ukraine, not Russia, was to blame for their collapse. Russia then invaded Ukraine on 24 February 2022.

Western politicians say and do different things when they are in or out of office. We should not take Merkel's words (ruse) too seriously. She may be serious of approaching Russia, but now after strongarmed by US and out of power, she has to do and say the "right thing". Otherwise, she may end up like her mentor Hulmut Koll ending up in legal trouble. BTW she back stabbed Koll for her raising in power.

I think the whole thing is simple. Germany want to control and diversify its energy supply which will make Germany more independent (from US). US want to squeeze the Russians. Germany got in the way. US smashed through, now Germany has to swallow the teeth. It is the repetition of Japan's 1980s "Japan can say no". After that Japan was very "pro" American, only they know how painful it is.

BTW, her mobile phone was (and still is?) taped by NSA, what do you expect she to say?

In either case, it just ends up on what you believe more. Did Germany have an independent foreign policy or did they not. The UK throw that out a few decades ago.

EU's Borrell Doubts People in Africa Who Support Russia Know About Putin, Donbass
EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Thursday that he doubted that people in African countries who showed their support for Russia knew who Vladimir Putin was or where Donbass was located.

"Russia is able to deflect blame, twist realty and find an audience in some parts of world. I have seen in TV screens these young African people on the streets of Bamako [Mali's capital] with billboards saying '[Russian President Vladimir] Putin, thanks. You have saved Donbass and now you will save us.' It is shocking. You can consider that these people do not know where Donbass is or maybe they do not even know who Putin is," Borrell said during a session of the EU Parliament's Special Committee on Foreign Interference.

The EU foreign policy chief claimed that there were also such people in the Balkans, in the countries seeking EU membership.
Borrell's remarks immediately drew criticism from member of the parliament Ozlem Demirel, who said that such statements were arrogant.

"To be honest, what you have said sounds not quite respectful. Such an arrogant tone and lack of respect for Africa have consequences. That is why it is not surprising when Africans are disappointed, nervous and then turn to Russia for help," the lawmaker said.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova also expressed her concerns over Borrell's remarks, recalling numerous cases when Western politicians showed lack of knowledge on geographical and other topics.

“The gardener, impersonating the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs, has doubted that people in the Balkans and Africa know where Donbass is and who Putin is. Josep [Borrell], don't judge people [and compare them] to yourself,” Zakharova wrote in her Telegram channel.

It is not the first time Borrell made controversial statements that sparked accusations of racism. In early October, speaking at the opening of the European Diplomatic Academy in Bruges, Borrell said that Europe was a "garden" and the rest of the world was a "jungle" that can invade this garden if "gardeners" do not take care of it.

Not much in this is new really. Russia exported the Rezonans-NE radar to Iran for example.

And if you believe that the Iranians built the Karrar MBT by themselves without aid I have a bridge to sell you.

Now that UN sanctions on Iran expired Russia can sell them all the weapons they want.

Until today, poor Putin still believed in the honesty of his Western "partners".

Putin about Merkel's words about cheating with the Minsk agreements: "To be honest, it was absolutely unexpected for me. It's disappointing. Trust almost dropped to 0. How to negotiate? About what? And is it possible to negotiate with them? Where are the guarantees? "

I am more concerned that Putin was delusional enough to believe western "promises" lol

The problem with American style capitalism is someone private has to profit from everything. It's like the rule of fight club. It's the one and only rule and everyone has to stick by it no matter what. The West's supply chain problems where they have to go to non-Western countries for their supplies because that's the only way they can make and save the most money possible is because someone private has to make money. Soros hates China because China doesn't give vampires like him free reign to bleed out money from China.

People are taunting how Apple is leaving China. The China end only gets $10 out of every $1000 iPhone so no big loss to China but Apple would be losing a large market so go taunt away. Like most things China gets out from, it's usually the beginning of its end. Look at crypto and how they were laughing at China getting out from it. It's been downhill ever since. And now China is getting out from the West.
