It's because Westerners want to believe those are the top paying jobs in China. If China loses that then China collapses which is what they wish were true so they can use it as leverage against China. One reason why China is getting more expensive for outsourcers is because they have to pay more to workers to compete with domestic companies that are paying more so they ain't the top paying jobs in China like they believe.

They think Apple is God’s gift to China. That without Apple somehow China is finished as a manufacturing power. Huawei was destroying Apple before they put chip sanctions on Huawei.

Can some of our forum members finally agree not to hyperventilate every time China gets tech sanctioned or some politicians fly to Taiwan now?
Yup, now that petroyuan is on the way and TSMC is already building a plant in the U.S., who cares who will visit Taiwan next?

Multinationals will always move their production line to the country with lower production cost whenever the opportunity arises. Apple's subcontractor is no exception. However, Chinese workers can't do assembly works for foreign companies forever. They need to move up the value chain - into the NEV industry, for example.

Non-binary Biden nuclear official Sam Brinton accused in second luggage heist

A Biden administration Energy Department official who allegedly stole a woman’s suitcase from a Minneapolis airport in September has been accused of another luggage heist at a Las Vegas airport.

A felony warrant on grand larceny charges was issued on Thursday for Sam Brinton, the deputy assistant secretary for spent fuel and waste disposition at the Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy, The Post can confirm.

Brinton, who made history as one of the federal government’s first gender-fluid officials, allegedly stole luggage from another traveler at Harry Reid International Airport in Vegas on an unknown date, according to the outlet.

Details about the alleged theft are scarce, but court records viewed by The Post showed that Brinton, 35, was charged with grand larceny with a value between $1,200 and $5,000.

Again with stealing luggage? You get paid $105k a year and why are you stealing stuff from an airport where there are cameras on every corner.

Western politicians say and do different things when they are in or out of office. We should not take Merkel's words (ruse) too seriously. She may be serious of approaching Russia, but now after strongarmed by US and out of power, she has to do and say the "right thing". Otherwise, she may end up like her mentor Hulmut Koll ending up in legal trouble. BTW she back stabbed Koll for her raising in power.

I think the whole thing is simple. Germany want to control and diversify its energy supply which will make Germany more independent (from US). US want to squeeze the Russians. Germany got in the way. US smashed through, now Germany has to swallow the teeth. It is the repetition of Japan's 1980s "Japan can say no". After that Japan was very "pro" American, only they know how painful it is.

BTW, her mobile phone was (and still is?) taped by NSA, what do you expect she to say?
Don't you think Merkel is actually giving Russia an assist? Previously US / EU sort of claim Russia wasn't adhering to the Minsk agreement, thus they are not bound by it. Now that she's outing them by sayiing US/EU had no intention of fulfilling it at all, this gives Russia an edge in diplomacy.

China has doubled the number of its ICU beds compared to 2019 to 138 thousand beds. That would be almost 10 bed for every 100 thousand people.

China is also repurposing Zero Covid quarantine centers into Covid patient care facilities for severe Covid cases. I think that by now, China has moved on from "Zero Covid" to "Zero Covid Death" policy.

that's an insane achievement, especially if it means that China has also doubled the amount of ICU physicians and nurses in just 3 years. One of the US's many weaknesses in its healthcare system leading to ballooning costs is it limits the amount of physicians it can graduate based off of medicare funding, which is controlled by congress. They're so limited that for-profit Hospital-Corporation-of-America(HCA) programs have opened residency slots to "support" medical school graduates and train them to become their own private physician workforce.

This means that prospective doctors have the "choice", if they aren't selected for their first choice of residency program, of not being a doctor (with a couple hundred thousand in student debt), going to a lower paying backup specialty in an undesirable location, or choosing to be a corporate stooge.
