Wasn't Adidas part of the boycott Xinjiang movement? Its CEO should only receives contract or audience after he answered question from CCTV in a broadcasted news conference.
Adidas is probably hurting after exiting Russia. From Statista, China accounts for 22% and EMEA for 37% of sales.

Russia probably accounts for 100% of Adidas track suit sales. So Adidas track suit department has probably gone bankrupt after Adidas left Russia. Talk about shooting yourself in the face.

With China sales tanking after the whole Xinjiang cotton thing, they have to play nice with China.

I expect Adidas will make an announcement about inspecting its Xinjiang suppliers and not finding any forced labor. Then Adidas will try to revive sales in the Chinese market.

The evil side in me thinks China should ban Adidas, so that only Nike and Under Armour will be left standing. How nice.

Looks like Vietnam has solidly picked a side in the upcoming global conflict. Western Vietnam watchers on suicide watch.

While this type of rhetoric in the Western media is hardly surprising, it is rather concerning that German officials are also sending the wrong signals ahead of the trip. Citing a German government spokesperson, Reuters reported on Friday that “Scholz will press China to open up its markets and will raise human rights concerns.” The spokesperson added that “Berlin's view of Beijing had changed but it was against ‘decoupling’ from the Chinese economy and wanted Beijing to show reciprocity in trade relations.”

It’s not entirely clear whether the spokesperson accurately presented Scholz’s plan for the trip or if it was a calculated move on the part of the German government to quell criticism from Germany and the West. In any case, threatening to “press” the host country with unfounded claims before a visit is wrong on many levels. It is rude, arrogant, and completely unacceptable in any setting – be it interactions between individuals or countries. Germany, or any other country for that matter, has no right or qualification to point figures at other countries’ domestic policies and internal affairs.

China is being very direct, if Scholz dares to mention human rights issues in front of Xi, things will go very poorly  .

Having seen these photos, I wish Xi Jingping ban Adidas in China. These youngsters look like nothing but gangsters in uniforms.

Tribute system has such an undeserving negative connotation in English. What would actually happen is tribute states will arrive with a delegation made up of officials and traders. The officials will gift the imperial court gifts unique to their nation, Qing is then obliged to return a gift of gold and silver of much superior value. Then once this official tribute process is completed the traders are then free to engage in trade in Qing.

It was so profitable (and costed Qing so much) that emperors had to set up a calendar for when you are allowed to tribute and when you are not, because people started to abuse the system for that sweet Qing silver.

While tribute system had Qing China as the central focus, Community of Common Destiny is a much improved version that removed the focus and encourages trades within the community between all members. Eurasian rail for example is not just about sending goods from Eastern China to Hamburg, but rather all the places it runs through also benefit from trading with all other places along the route. This is distinct from ocean based trade which are much more point to point.
The exchange of goods portion of the tributary system is still in place today though, instead of goods it is trade deals. Like before, these trade deals often give fewer benefits to China compared to the other side, e.g., Scholz coming to Beijing to beg.

After an invitation from the Indonesian military, the PLA Navy's hospital ship the Peace Ark will set out from Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang Province toward Indonesia for a friendly visit, Senior Colonel Tan Kefei, a spokesperson at China's Ministry of National Defense, announced on Tuesday.
China and Indonesia have a friendship with a long history, the two countries have close economic cooperation, and the two countries' militaries have had frequent interactions in recent years, observers said. The 2022 G20 Bali summit is also scheduled from November 15 to 16 in Indonesia.

tries to be. Except now, it has earned the ire of the American government (by virtue of its Republican attack dogs, Sen. Rubio and Rep. Smith), and is likely to go “under investigation” for being “agents of the Chinese government,” as this is the tactic that Shannon Van Sant’s lawyers are taking for a most expeditious and likely legal win.

Her lawyers at the non-profit firm Whistleblower Aid cite her experience and her research to claim that there is “a reasonable belief” that The China Project has been influenced by the Chinese government and is acting as an “agent of a foreign principal” under federal law.
This is, in a nutshell, the facade of “free debate” peeling away to reveal a blatant propaganda state — and no, I don’t mean China here. That this has become the legal best-choice action should send ice down anyone’s spines. SupChina’s frontline articles as of this writing are:

This is supposedly the output of a Chinese government agent.

OK.

“Democracy dies in darkness” has been WaPo’s motto ever since Trump took office. But really, I think I would use a slightly different motto there: “Critical thinking dies in darkness.”

Welcome to the new thought control state. It’s only a race to the bottom at this point. You are witnessing the cannibalization of former allies who don’t completely toe the party line:

I have a past message on this forum on how American hawkish think tanks had gone so extreme that usual anti-China voices were the moderates in 2022. This incident is just another example but this time the extremist is the US Government itself. Welcome to the red scare 2. Some people call me hysterical when I say this but if you are Asian and you are living in the USA, it is probably good for you to have contingency plans to leave the country fast.

Waiting for China Uncensored, SerpentZa and Peter Zeihan to be unmasked as CCP agents of influence.
