What do any of those countries give in return? It's not like Africa, ASEAN or South America with natural resources and potential for economic growth. All of those countries have already peaked economically and lack natural resources.

I would limit investments in any of them unless they were allies i.e. withdrawal from NATO and join the pro China voting block in the UN.

Poland joins the axis of evil based on the Poles who come on this forum....
I would say talent and political influence in EU. Many of the aforementioned countries have a highly educated population for their economic size, and suffer from brain drain. The list is long, from Nikola Tesla, Edward Teller, Enrico Fermi, to Katalin Karikó today. It's up to China to take advantage of this situation to secure talent for itself or at least utilize them in their home nations for China's benefit.

Secondly, it's politically advantageous to have job-generating investments there so China could take advantage of lobby system of Western democracies. Who is going to say no to companies that generate jobs in their constituencies? Just look at how powerful the automotive and MIC lobbies are within the US government.

For example, Hungary is one of the most "pragmatic" and least ideological EU member states.
So Hungary is much more neutral and friendly to everyone - which includes Russia and China.

That means Hungary has more disagreements on EU policy.

At the same time, Hungary has one of the friendliest business environments in the EU and is already a battery production hub.

So why not invest in Hungary like CATL is doing?

EDIT: Hungarians also use "Eastern name order" which means surname first. Apparently this was a legacy of the Huns. And generally there is a acknowledgement of a distant Asian connection.

And Japan is going back to "Eastern name order" instead of "Western name order" for English translations.

A Muslim woman who was gang raped while pregnant during India's devastating 2002 religious riots has appealed to the government to rescind its decision to free the 11 men who had been jailed for life for committing the crime, after they were released on suspended sentences.

Typical day in India
