That's a big coup for the South Korean defense industry. Usually, deals of this magnitude are won by the USA or Russia. The South Koreans are gonna be very smug about this defense deal.

So is this the Jai Poland agenda that the Polish leadership is talking about? I wonder if the Polish economy can hang-on till 2026.

Blaszczak should be careful about his statement. It's not Russia he has to worry about. The US had just lost out on this mega deal, how would they take it? America could interpret Poland as doing a deal with South Korea behind their backs.

C'mon are you gonna play white supremacy with the Koreans? Must be the butthurt that the British and the US failed land a mega defense deal like this.

America could tolerate South Korea taking some small slices of the defense market pie. But now that South Korea managed to land a mega defense deal, its gonna attract some American envy. America hates to share, even if you are its ally. Could America sanction the South Korean defense industry one day? Its not as far-fetched as it sounds.
This deal is enormous. It's similar sized to the ones Russia usually get India into.

Maybe after China has dealt with intruding US forces, it would be possible to con Poland into buying some aircraft carriers. After all, the PLA is also proven from the challenge of its cross Pacific neighbor, who conduct aggressive diplomacy.

And if the lifts happen to be a few sizes too small and can't fit anything except special J-31 export model... That would be an unfortunate accident.

Is the K2 (Black Panther) wholly indigenous?
Well I don't know for sure. The South Koreans off course are gonna claim it's fully indigenous. The butthurt Westerners might say that the 120mm L/55 gun is copied from the German Leopard 2A7. The 120mm cassette autoloader and armour is copied from the French Leclerc. The engine is copied from the Germans. The Thermal sight system is copied from the Israelis. The cupola machine gun is copied from the American M2. Well, anything that they can accuse China of copying from the West. They can easily do the same with the South Koreans.

The West lamented the sale of military technology to the Chinese. Giving the Chinese the technology to develop modern indigenous designs. But when the South Koreans bought Western technologies, they did the same thing. And now they are selling arms to NATO members. So double the butthurt.

SK defence products are very competitive in certain areas. Hence the question now is, how long would the US and the West tolerate this new competition in town?

Just to clear things up a bit, Nicholas Drummond WORKS for Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), the manufacturer of the Leopard 2A7V.

So I would take what he says about the Hyundai Rotem K2(NO) with a grain of salt.

It uses a German transmission.
So it's like 76% indigenous like the INS virkant then? Lol just being sarcastic...thanks for the info.

But am quite happy to see South Koreans managed to achieve such massive haul/sale for their burgeoning defense industry. Even though they can be insufferable at times the fact is what they have achieved for another Asian country is worthy of praise and respect.

The gun isn't copied, it is purchased directly from Germany. Only a handful of countries can produce tank gun barrels.

Oh I see...India still has the upper hand on South Koreans then. I wonder, why couldn't the Indians sell their super duper Armata tank to the Polish and see how advanced their tank is. After all, that's what I have been told numerous times by our erstwhile Indians.

They aren't wrong, at least mostly not wrong.

K2 follows the traditional Indian design philosophy aka buy a bunch of random shit from other countries and put it together.

For China, basically everything except the stuff explicitly purchased from Russia as part of those economic deals after the end of USSR is indigenous.
