Pretty sure it would be a “seppuku” against the entire Western economy. What is the one thing that is “greater measures” that they haven’t used against Russia? Defaulting on Western Bonds. Drop a economic nuclear bomb on yourself while you are at it. Bet they won’t consult the central bank on it either just like SWIFT.

I think the decline actually started with the peak of USA the Reagan era. It is around then the "trickle down economy" started. It started the long term doom. The collapse of soviet union hid that problem and allowed the poor policy to continue. From then on it was Bush going into war in middle east, 2008 crisis, and finally led to today.

EU sanctions on Russia merely shift the trade to intermediaries. Virtue signaling does allow EU to have direct business or aviation connection with Russia but EU is ok with buying the same stuff in other places where Russia has increased investment in anticipation.
ultimately Russia benefit when EU spread its engineering and investments across wider region far away from Europe.

Never forget, r/Russia

People often complain that China doesn't retaliate against Indian attacks on Chinese firms (Xiaomi, Tiktok , Vivo etc). Well China looks at the bigger picture. Indians focus on winning the battle while China focusses on winning the War.

The increase in deficit alone is worth more than the entire economic offensive waged by India.
