Sleepy Joe will never politically survive if he lower Trump tariffs on China import but Xi doesn't reciprocal lower at least some tariffs on US import. Trump already calling him 'Beijing Bidden', think he had tough 2 years already? The remaining 2 years would be hell on his admin.

The Biden's main point for said call is just for domestic political brownie point and expecting China is warm up just because of tariff removals. That is just plain wrong. It just like asking others to reward you just because you stop hitting them.

The tariffs should be removed FIRST, then US will have to make a permanent concession(e.g Taiwan) to make up for the loss before relation can be on equal ground, after which the US will then have to show the benefit they are willing to offer China in order for China to react mutually.

If Chinese politicians keep on behaving naively by giving up opportunities for strategic gain, then they deserve it big time when 中华民族伟大复兴 fails.

I think Xi is only accepting calls to keep the USA from making any drastic moves for as long as possible. To decouple now may harm China but to do so later will ensure China wouldn’t be harm any where near as much as the USA and in fact it may benefit China like it does for Russia. It’s a balancing act and as long as China doesn’t give ground to the USA then China will keep on advancing no matter what the USA does. Misdirection is key here, the longer the USA remains divided, the quicker they will collapse.
Besides Biden is the one doing the calling, not Xi

I have an alternative suggestion for Germany if Canada doesn't relent:

Open up Nord Stream 2, not because you're going soft on Russia, goodness no! We're just allowing the same amount of gas through NS2 that would have gone through NS1 if there wasn't a broken turbine. If I put two canisters of gas in front of you can you tell me which one came from NS1 and which one came from NS2? So this isn't about dodging sanction, this is purely a technical solution to a technical problem.

I'll give kudos to the author for being self-critical of what the US has done and is doing wrong but his answers to the problem are typical of why the US is in the situation in the first place. It's all about the money that the West doesn't have. So what does the West have to offer to attract others? Their popular culture? It does nothing to improve the lives of people around the world. Western money comes with restrictions and conditions. And they'll agree that Chinese money comes with fewer conditions and restrictions so unless the West is planning to change that, they're always going to be stuck with the same problems.
