Some have suggested the EU should go on the offensive. Zachmann at Bruegel said Europe could compel its power utilities to effectively cancel any long-term contracts they had with Gazprom. The European buyers could then offer to purchase a fixed volume of gas at a fixed price, offering Russia better terms for higher volumes.

These FT editors are delusional :D, or maybe it's a clever plan by their Japanese owners (of FT) to help push Europe over the edge

Wow South Asia is screwed from climate change
I don't know how common these types of flooding are.

In India's Assam state, at least nine people died in the floods and 2 million others saw their homes submerged in floodwaters, according to the state disaster management agency.
The Brahmaputra, one of Asia's largest rivers, breached its mud embankments, inundating 3,000 villages and croplands in 28 of Assam's 33 districts.
Gee, if only there was some way to control the flow of water upstream to mitigate these types of floods. Maybe a hydroelectric dam in China or something?

Giving Chinese companies a couple of years without any serious European competition. What could go wrong...

The moment Chinese businesses smell blood in the water, you are done for. just gg and rage quit. You don't give the 2nd largest economy in the world a couple of years of free competition to the global markets and then thinking that after that, business would remain the same as some years before

Good luck to Europe..

Europe's advantage is its cold weather which allows for large scale industrialization. Eg Southern Spain and Southern Italy is poorer than its northern counterparts because the hot weather inhabits industrialization which needs cooling from cold weather.

But at the same time, the climate of Europe is now its hindrance because of lack of renewable energy potential. Solar irradiation and wind isn't that high except for maybe North Sea. They can rely on cutting edge geothermal which goes deep underground but that hasn't been proven yet. On the other hand, Middle East could reap dividends from large solar irradiation and electrolysis, and finally bypass the fossil fuels curse.
