From enrolling for a military career of 15 years and a pension. Now downgraded to 4 year service and 25% chance for a military career with nothing for the other 75%.

Modi doing this to reduce military size and government spending. Looks more like India is broke and this is not a modernization attempt.

Well, I think this will result in a large increase in modernisation and effectiveness.
Previously the Indian Army was stuck with whoever was initially selected for 15 years.
Now they only get the top 25% of each cohort.

Biden-Xi Call Is Under Discussion as US-China Tensions Simmer

Biden: Daddy Xi, help me please
These calls are getting quite tedious now. Xi must be bored out of his mind talking with Biden about the same stuff (begging for help, US economy going down, demented speech, bravado etc.) every 2 months

Don't we all know the script already? Here, copy paste the Ministry of Foreign Affairs press release from the previous call, should be exactly the same this time around

Biden reiterated that the US does not seek a new Cold War with China; it does not aim to change China’s system; the revitalization of its alliances is not targeted at China; the US does not support “Taiwan independence”; and it has no intention to seek a conflict with China.
The US is ready to have candid dialogue and closer cooperation with China, stay committed to the one-China policy, and effectively manage competition and disagreements to ensure the steady growth of the relationship. President Biden expressed readiness to stay in close touch with President Xi to set the direction for the US-China relationship.
President Xi stressed that he and President Biden share the view that China and the US need to respect each other, coexist in peace and avoid confrontation, and that the two sides should increase communication and dialogue at all levels and in all fields. President Biden has just reiterated that the US does not seek to have a new Cold War with China, to change China’s system, or to revitalize alliances against China, and that the US does not support “Taiwan independence” or intend to seek a conflict with China. “I take these remarks very seriously,” said President Xi.
The two sides exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine.

President Biden expounded on the US position, and expressed readiness for communication with China to prevent the situation from exacerbating.

President Xi pointed out that China does not want to see the situation in Ukraine to come to this. China stands for peace and opposes war. This is embedded in China’s history and culture. China makes a conclusion independently based on the merits of each matter
The two Presidents agreed that the video call is constructive. They directed their teams to promptly follow up and take concrete actions to put China-US relations back on the track of steady development, and make respective efforts for the proper settlement of the Ukraine crisis.
Yawn

Probably the only new thing would be Biden trying to make Xi give away something in order for Biden to save face for dropping some tarrifs. Thats it.

Two months later, the next call will also be of the same nature.

The problem is there is no incentive to enroll. You may only get 25% of each cohort but overall recruitment numbers will drop. What civil skills will they have after 4 years? I don’t see any secondary education being offered to them either.

China, India,Vietnam or even DPRK, any country has a decent relationship with both Russia and Ukraine, doesn’t want to do this. At this point european leaders are like hamsters, running in your cages hard as you can, there’s absolutely no fucking chance to escape this nightmare. This war hurts Americans too, it’s just that they are big enough to take a punch, I can’t say the same for europeans.
I won’t praise your professionalism cuz I have a brain, I would laugh at you cuz I have no mercy.
The thing with the US is that in case of emergency they can devise some "Oil & Food Freedom Act" and ban exports to stabilize the prices cuz they are majorly self-sufficient in energy and food, they can even harvest uranium from their vassals down under. Europe is a huge energy and resource importer, meaning that its economy will be taking a triple whammy of commodity spikes, inflation (also affected by commodities), and a looming financial crisis.

Depends on the level of corruption and accountability in the Indian government. I can foresee Indians bribing officials for a secure position in the military because employment is so hard to find.

Under the new Agnipath scheme, around 45,000 to 50,000 soldiers will be recruited annually, and most will leave the service in just four years. Of the total annual recruits, only 25 per cent will be allowed to continue for another 15 years under permanent commission.

So it’s like 10,000 new soldiers per year. Is that even sustainable?

Seems like the retirement age is like 42-52 or like 45 for simplicity sake and crappy math. Let’s say all the recruits are 18 year olds then doesn’t that mean that at most there about 270k soldiers and 150k meat shields at any given time?

Russia warns of potential gas 'disaster' for Germany

Further problems with pumping units may lead to the shutdown of the Nord Stream pipeline, Moscow says

Western Euopre should have sufficient enough trees and forests to chop and deforest for firewood. Can’t say they will be around for next year or the year after that without imports.

Another one of "shoot yourself in the face" move with 8.5% inflation and rising. (I was going to use another part of the anatomy closer to the foot, but decided to maintain the professional image of SDF).

Oil prices end higher as the U.S. announces new sanctions on Iran

Oil prices bottomed out and reversed direction Thursday following news that the U.S. slapped “fresh economic sanctions on Iran in an effort to force the oil-producing nation back into a nuclear agreement,” Tyler Richey, co-editor at Sevens Report Research, told MarketWatch.

it sanctioned a network of Iranian petrochemical producers as well as “front companies” in China and the United Arab Emirates which support companies it says broker the sale of Iranian petrochemicals abroad.

Meanwhile, Troy Vincent, senior market analyst at DTN, said oil trading Thursday got a boost as a visit to Ukraine by the European leaders was “interpreted as bullish for oil given that it may well signal another coming round of [European Union] sanctions against Russia and continued pressure on Russia’s oil trade.”

Mean while, the US stock market gives back all the gain yesterday and more.

U.S. inflation expected to keep running hot: Traders see 4 straight months of roughly 9% or higher CPI readings

Wednesday’s 75-basis-point rate hike and policy update by the FOMC, or rate-setting Federal Open Market Committee, “made no difference” to fixings traders, said Hu, who also trades CPI fixings. “Whatever the Fed does is very unlikely to change CPI in the next few months because Fed action will have a lag of 6 to 12 months. Whatever the Fed does is not massively going to change the market’s thinking in two to three months.”

Ukraine has stated multiple times China can help end the war. If US doesn't use China to pass a message, who can they use? India?

China is the only power broker possible for some sort of endgame for Ukraine, I'm expecting Macron and Scholz to call Xi about this soon.
And China has stated multiple times that at the heart of the conflict, some kind of actual talk/negotiations have to happen between the Russia and the US (leader of NATO).

China simply can't do something like brokering peace between Russia and Ukraine without the involvement of the US, and the US and Russia will need to end up at some kind of deal.
