She is propagandized by Chinese officials for a political reason, maybe you missed the value. There were a lot of heartfelt stories about diaspora returning to China (i.e., Chinese hockey team) to compete for the Olympics, Eileen was merely the poster child of that campaign. For economic/demographic reasons, China will have to allow and encourage (preferably skilled) Chinese diaspora back to the homeland.
To overseas Chinese and descendants/diaspora, it is a signal that China welcomes Chinese people back.
To domestic Chinese, this campaign is meant to change the domestic opinion in favour of more immigration of returning Chinese Diaspora.
It is my hope that China's official policy would also change to be more tolerant of dual citizenship to accompany the inevitable Chinese diaspora return policies.
