Anyone who isn't seriously preparing for a war to happen in this decade, is a fool.

Wake me up when J-20 production hits 100 airframes annually. Military spending share per gdp should also be hiked to 2% as soon as possible.

Basic history shows that many people have complained for "excessive" military spending but no one has ever complained about military spending when the country is at war.

Better get ready now, or otherwise if something happens and you get caught with your pants down, you won't have time to regret your decision to not be better prepared for a war when you were at peace.

UnionPay is definitely used in western markets, at least definitely in Canada
All the major payment processors here support it, sending promo emails and window stickers to "reach more global customers" etc. etc. Of course this means Chinese customers, lol.

You can look at UnionPay keeping away from Russia as a form of bullying by the US, yes. However, another way to look at it, UnionPay first and foremost is serving Chinese nationals, many of which are overseas. Their interests should be a priority as a matter of practicality.

Good opportunity for China to exchange her US$ and/or Euro holding for assets in a friendly country, thus reducing her foreign currency reserve risk. These opportunities should also appeal to Saudi Arabia and other rich Gulf states for exactly the same reasons.

Also, both Visa and MasterCard do not have large market shares in China. In fact, the US used to complain about the delayed approval for them to access the market fully. There isn't much of a leverage here. A showdown with the US on this is not worth it.

Why is it a shame? Fusion is the holy grail of clean energy for the mankind. It is entirely normal for the scientific discovery and technological innovation of this magnitude to be a moving target. We will get there when we get there. But before then, any unreasonable expectation is self-inflicted pain. We are making progress. That is what counts.
