China's oil champion prepares Western retreat over sanctions fear

CNOOC preparing to exit Britain, Canada, U.S. -sources

Companies periodically carry out reviews of their portfolios, but the exit being prepared would take place less than a decade after state-owned CNOOC entered the three countries via a $15 billion acquisition of Canada's Nexen, a deal that transformed the Chinese champion into a leading global producer.

The assets, which include stakes in major fields in the North Sea, the Gulf of Mexico and large Canadian oil sand projects, produce around 220,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed), Reuters calculations found.

Western MSM is totally out of touch with Chinese people. Shanghai has a lot of problems, but that does not change people's mind about China's governance. There are people talk about following the west's lay down type covid policy, but these people get no traction. It is hard to forget the number of death from covid in US, and now SK, HK.
It gets better, aussie media is telling Xi wat he should or should not do in china. Next time I suggest GT to tell Scomo how to do his job when the floods or bushfires hit again. Forget about daily covid deaths in aust, these "civilized" people no longer care anymore.

Well said, I'm sure a substantial amount of anti-China tropes in the Western media are generated this way.
I always assume people knew this. If you go through previous BBC coverage on Chinese matters, most of them just cherry pick negative comments from people they select to interview. It could be 100 comments with 95 positive or neutral ones they always home in on the few negatives ones. That's why we have seen Chinese citizens on the streets getting hostile to foreign reporters. And those foreign reporters act like they are being hate crimed and persecuted lol.

Several errors I want to point out:

1. Xi went to Hainan to work.
2. This news editor has bunked his/her geography lessons. If Xi really wants to be as far away from Shanghai, then Lhasa or Kashgar are obviously better choices. Sanya is closer to Shanghai than both of them.
3. Looks like they conveniently forgot that ScoMo had gone on vacation in Hawaii and sending thought and prayers, all the while Australia was ravaged by bushfires back in 2019/2020.
And once again, Xi is going on a work trip. Not a vacation trip.

Lol.
