Like other users have said here, It makes no difference if they choose to join or not, and it may even weaken NATO's unity even further if they do join. Both Finland and Sweden is already working in tandem with NATO and US long before, this would only make their relationship official.

NATO doesn't even have the gal to even send peacekeepers in Ukraine, to make Russian troops back off, despite having every justification and "international law" backing them on this. Instead, they chose to stay behind Ukraine, sending weapons and intel only. It really just shows NATO is for, a client list for US weapons and a tool to influence or drag its members around to do their bidding.

If those countries want to lose their sovereignty on national defense and foreign policy, go ahead. What a waste of potential to gain more for your country by binding yourself to an one-sided alliance.

Customary "my wife is Chinese, therefore I am correct" as usual

At this point I'm starting to think all these my wife's family is from China posts are CIA or bot-generated

I think you could be right. I see the same kind of comment on 3 or 4 different sites/articles. They proceed to whip other commenters up with “Xi the Pooh must fall!!”.

It’s funny because they always say China and Russia are doing these things and it might have influenced the American election. The people who eat it up use it as proof of malfeasance, but I mean if it’s so effective, don’t you think America is doing it too?

This should have happened years ago. I have long been irritated at what seems like talking shops of BRICS and Shanghai Cooperation Organization but zero to no action on real meat.

Russia calls for integrating BRICS payment systems

April 9 (Reuters) - Russia, hit by Western sanctions, has called on the BRICS group of emerging economies to extend the use of national currencies and integrate payment systems, the finance ministry said on Saturday.

Sanctions have cut Russia off from the global financial system and from nearly half of its gold and foreign exchange reserves, which stood at $606.5 billion in early April.

On Friday, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov told a ministerial meeting with BRICS, which consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, that the global economic situation had worsened substantially due to the sanctions, the ministry's statement said.

The new sanctions also destroy the foundation of the existing international monetary and financial system based on the U.S. dollar, Siluanov said.

"This pushes us to the need to speed up work in the following areas: the use of national currencies for export-import operations, the integration of payment systems and cards, our own financial messaging system and the creation of an independent BRICS rating agency," Siluanov said.

International payment cards Visa and MasterCard suspended operations in Russia in early March and Russia's biggest banks have lost access to the SWIFT global banking messaging system.

Russia set up its own banking messaging system, known as SPFS, as an alternative to SWIFT. Its own card payment system MIR began operating in 2015.

They were part of Moscow's efforts to develop homegrown financial tools to mirror Western ones, to protect the country in case penalties against Moscow were broadened.

The finance ministry said BRICS ministers have confirmed the importance of cooperation in efforts to stabilise the current economic situation. "The current crisis is man-made, and the BRICS countries have all necessary tools to mitigate its consequences for their economies and the global economy as a whole," Siluanov said.

Russia - India - China are sufficient to create the critical mass to get things going quickly. When that happens, it will likely bring in Saudi Arabia/UAE and probably ASEAN for Phase 2. That is a winning combination.

Adding Brazil and S Africa initially will just complicate the process, add more pressure points for the AUKUS/EU to derail the effort, and slow down the initiative. Let them join at Phase 2 or 3.

This is a trillion dollar IF, which US would do whatever it takes to prevent from happening. It could be hugely beneficial to all parties. But India and Brazil will not overcome pressures and obstacles from US.

Just imaging, the highly complementary trade flows within BRICS use local currencies with swapping mechanism or new pegging scheme. This is 3-billion growth market that is composed of two largest consuming countries and two largest resource countries, with SA as icing on the cake. That would create a black-hole effect for GCC countries, ASEAN countries, African countries or even South American countries.

How the hell will US allow this scenario to happen?

So perfect on paper, MAD in reality.

No disagreement with what you said. That is why the path of minimal resistance is RIC first and not BRICS.
