Eon Germany boss: “The situation is very tense – even without a gas supply stop”

Delivery stop: dramatic consequences for the economy

But we have been at a very high level for weeks.

That's right. Some of the prices are 20 times higher than in spring 2020. Of course, this has a signaling effect on the market. As Eon, we are a company that neither produces nor imports natural gas and also does not generate electricity on a large scale from coal or gas. In the German sales department, we buy wholesale for our customers with as much foresight as possible on the European markets. We are keeping a very close eye on developments.
And what are your conclusions?

We see two scenarios: wholesale prices are very high, but gas keeps flowing. The second scenario would be: no more gas arrives in Europe from Russia. After the gas emergency plan has been activated, we now expect the Federal Network Agency to plan the criteria according to which the network operators in Germany would have to separate customers from the gas supply. According to the gas emergency plan, industrial customers would be affected first, with drastic consequences for the German economy.
