Of the 500 billion cubic meters consumed by Europe. m of gas per year Russian supplies account for up to 45%. And two EU countries - Finland and Bulgaria - are 100% dependent on supplies from Russia. In Germany, Russian gas accounts for 61.9%. Austria (70.1%), Greece (96.4%), Latvia (76.5%), Slovakia (84.1%) also have significant consumption volumes. More than half of the gas consumed comes from Russia Hungary (64.1%), Denmark (53.1%), Poland (64.2%), Czech Republic (57.7%).

Denmark is only importing Russian gas due to its largest offshore North Sea gas field Thyra currently undergoing refitting.
Next summer it will be up and running and the country back to being a net exporter of gas with potential large untapped reserves (Xana field). Unlucky timing really

Gas is around 6% of the total domestic electrical production.
So 53,1% is basically a rather large misleading number without context.

I think the invasion was carried out not so much to take advantage of the strength of Russia and China ties, but actually the weakness of Ukraine-China ties in some ways.

Even after the Maidan revolution, China-Ukraine ties were very strong. It was not until the election of Zelensky and the collapse of the Motor Sich deal did the distrust boil to the surface. If Zelensky were able to repair ties, and even worse, buy affordable Chinese weapons, Russia would have lost it's positioning. Imagine a MiG-29 upgrade with JF-17 BLK3 avionics, I'm not sure Russia would have air superiority.
Well, if Zelensky was smart, he wouldn't have taken the empty promises of the West to provoke Russia. If Zelensky is smart, there wouldn't be a war.

Based and Xi-Jinping pilled. Proof that only Xi had the strategic vision to see the dangers of the West. Where was the rest of the top CPC leadership at the early 2000s and the internal resistance at early-mid 2010s? Sleeping at the wheel

The kool-aid drinkers would blame Xi for not exposing China's belly to be pecked apart.

In these guy's eyes, it's China who should be at fault for US's stupidity. As if China was the one that launched trade war and decoupling, or it was China that broke down globalist world order it has created. So I guess they are finally coming to the realization that comrade Trump is Chinese at heart?

I think it’s a safe inference to make that the US does not want more Pro-China European countries.

Many people don’t believe that Zelensky is really in power. Note these projects were all signed before him. So I think the strategy is to push Putin to invade before Chinese projects are underway. 2 birds, 1 stone. Russia is slogging through a war, China is kept out.

Why not wait until the projects are underway and hope that the Russia-China relationship is undermined? Because you leave the door open for negotiation.

Two different Friedmans. One for geopolitics is George Friedman, the founder of geopolitical strategic consulting company, STRATFOR. The other is one of the longest NYT columnist Thomas Friedman. This dude, has written a couple of books that sold fairly well, namely "The World Is Flat" and other neoliberal/American globalization books. Plus, he's married to a very rich woman.
OK thanks. Their views on China's capabilities are strikingly similar.

According to this seat-filler Atlantic journalist, the world is splitting now citing Pakistan and Vietnam choosing sides? That's been happening for decades. Tell us something new how this conclusion was made. The West is using this autocratic vs democratic narrative because they say autocracies are spreading because China is a successful example. Today I'm watching the news and some congressman is being interviewed and he claims Putin invaded Ukraine because the world sees democracy as spreading in the world. Which one is it? And notice it's the still undemocratic Vietnam that's siding with the US so how do they draw these conclusions?
