"WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, who is due to meet with China's top diplomat Yang Jiechi in Rome on Monday, warned Beijing that it would "absolutely" face consequences if it helped Moscow evade sweeping sanctions over the war in Ukraine.

Sullivan told CNN the United States believed China was aware that Russia was planning some action in Ukraine before the invasion took place, although Beijing may not have understood the full extent of what was planned.

Now, he said, Washington was watching closely to see to what extent Beijing provided economic or material support to Russia, and would impose consequences if that occurred.

"We are communicating directly, privately to Beijing, that there will absolutely be consequences for large-scale sanctions, evasion efforts or support to Russia to backfill them," Sullivan said. "We will not allow that to go forward and allow there to be a lifeline to Russia from these economic sanctions from any country, anywhere in the world."

A senior administration official said the war in Ukraine would be a "significant topic" during Sullivan's meeting with Yang, which is part of a broader effort by Washington and Beijing to maintain open channels of communication and manage competition between the world's two largest economies..."

The Western Allies are out of ammo against Russia. They have exhausted everything. If they think double digit inflation is bad then try launching an economic war against China and the average joe will be wishing they had double digit instead of triple digit. Push economic pain even further and Trump might get a 50 state landslide.

Like it or not. The world does need leadership. And China can, should, and must fill that void.
The CPC has led 750 million people out of poverty while Western leadership has failed to improve the lives of their own. I don't think they need to be lectured by the West about "leadership". And China is leading by ignoring NATO/Anglo sanctions on Russia.

President Joe Biden signing a ban on the use of maps that "inaccurately" depict Taiwan island by the US Department of State.

The ban is part of the $1.5-trillion Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2022 Biden signed on Friday.

"None of the funds made available by this Act should be used to create, procure, or display any map that inaccurately depicts the territory and social and economic system of Taiwan and the islands or island groups administered by Taiwan authorities," read the ban.

More proof that China should not help the US and the Western Allies. If China “backstabs” Russia then those very same people will immediately move back to trying to destroy China.

The neocons are foaming at their mouth that the Russians are fucking up their plan to shift and divert resources towards China after leaving Afghanistan.

Multiple media outlets are reporting this. Look like a leak from the US before the meeting to force China to give some assurance or promise.

Russia might be running low on some stuff after 2 weeks to war. I wouldn't find it strange if it requested assistance from China on getting resupplied or specialised equipment to deal with Ukraine

However I agree that this is a pressure tactic from the US on China. Very convenient how these "leaks" happen..
