Assuming it is true. It’s pretty impressive motivation. The one thing that seems strange is the army hired a 353 pound man but I suppose he could continue losing weight.

It’s fake news from our favorite tabloid Global Times. The kid went from 230斤(1/2kg) to 160斤. Apparently the translator mistook the unit as kg. Here is the real news link in Chinese:

That makes more sense. I thought it was really odd and strange the army would hire a 350lb man as a soldier. Still 77lb weight loss is quite an achievement for that person.

China 'prepared for' S.Korea power shift

Wang Junsheng, a research fellow of East Asian studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing, told the Global Times on Tuesday that the negative sentiment against China among South Korean youth was caused by multiple reasons.

"Due to the anti-China propaganda warfare launched by the US since the Donald Trump era, China's image has been demonized in many countries allied with the US. Given the bad economic situation in South Korea, the youth are suffering from unemployment and low-income, for which they vent their frustrations on China," Wang said.

South Korea is going through it's "Hong Kong" phase.... backlash against China due to intense competition (League of Legends, Shipbuilding, Semiconductors, Android Phones, Flat-screen TVs, Korean geopolitics) and rising Chinese GDP per capita overturning their world view of "Western superiority" and "Korean superiority", and sluggish economic opportunities in "Hell Joseon".

You know what they say, if you aren't getting hated on, then you aren't doing anything noteworthy or you are not strong or powerful. We Chinese got to get used to getting hated on by neighbors jealous they aren't "superior" to China anymore, can't look down upon us anymore, cannot compete against us fairly, and need to vent their frustration to us. Sooner or later, denial/frustration leads to acceptance, and then lead to sucking our nut sack.
