The irony is that with inflation at 3 decade record highs, if China were to fully adhere to the agricultural and commodity purchases in the phase 1 trade deal, it would end up competing with Americans for the same base commodities and drive up the price of food and energy, resulting in even higher inflation.
It makes no difference to an American farmer whether his bushel of wheat gets sold to a fellow American household or one in China, he'll sell to who ever bids the highest price on the commodity exchanges.
