compare that to this column. there is a reason why bridge collapse and it is just too easy to blame it on the overloading, The 2 trucks being overloaded will likely be running on the slow outer lane and the torsional force is likely a major contributing factors causing the tilt and eventual collapse. This accident may not have happened if they were on the middle lane or perhaps if the traffic was restricted to 2 lanes,So you are saying that the bridge has to support unlimited load? The two lorries weighted 200 metrics tonnes together. That is 4 main battle tanks. How many roads in the world allow them to travel in close formation?

Adding more horizontal support to the column would likely also help mitigate such accidents,
