China always help the overseas Chinese who help themselves. China helped Chin Peng/MPLA, Chinese Vietnamese refugees, Chinese Indonesian refugees (the ones who accepted the evacuation offers anyhow), Kokang and Chinese in Yemen and Libya.

What they had in common was that they were all unapologetically Chinese and were willing to be helped. Overseas Chinese have to be willing to accept help to get help. Not everyone is OK with accepting help. Those who refused to be helped... There's nothing to be done.

China provide help to its citizens. China does not evacuate foreign citizens out of their own countries. Tell me which country in this world that provide diplomatic protection to foreign citizens?

When I was qualified to acquire citizenship of an European country, I made my choice not to do so because I don't want to give up my Chinese citizenship. That is not only a choice of convenience but also a question to my soul, "am I going to let the natives to ask where is my loyalty if I so love China?" People make their choice, then they must be brave to live with it.

This may sound cold-blooded, but I have to break it with you. If your ancestors made that choice for you, you can blame them but you can't blame China or Chinese who has nothing to do with you. China and Chinese people would appreciate your (and all ethnic Chinese) friendship, but that is it, good neighbour and friend, but that is not family.

Not to sound prejudiced, but the guy is Indian.
Normally I would try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but Indian media is just the worst, and this guy shows it in spades (though published by an American outlet)
Letting go of how over the top the article is (invoking both Stalin and Hitler! Far Left and Far Right!), really the weaponizing was started by the US, so how is China weaponizing it?

You bet it it is the overseas Chinese thru remittance money provide those money. The first 20 years of Chinese reform overseas Chinese provide most of the capital
