Good idea. Dun forget the Chinese brands too. Oppo have sponsored before although not as a major one.

Another way to make example of WTA is to support the ATP more seeing as how they have avoided standing with WTA on this.

The only drawback I fear is how negatively the female Chinese players will be affected. Respectable male Chinese players are non existent right now unfortunately. If this issue continues to blow up, the development of female players would be jeopardised.

WTA and ATP are two faces of the same coin. China should stop hosting these tennis tournaments from organisations that don’t respect China.

Hosting tennis tournaments makes no difference to player development. Players rise through good tennis academies. Not hosting tournaments.

Another thing, I have zero respect for Peng Shuai. Selfish woman. She is not a victim, she is the problem. All of these problems is caused by her.

Kinda hilarious opening reddit and seeing all the EUpoors whining about China blocking Lithuanian imports
What's even funnier is reading their posts about how the totally superpower EU is going to start a trade war against China to protect Lithuania lol

Like, just one thing, Magnesium, which was restricted from China, was enough to nearly collapse EU's industry in November

And now the keyboard warriors want a total trade war haha

At least some of the posters on there are aware of the inability of the EU to have a trade war against China. If the EU/US can bribe a poor member state to enact anti-China legislation, China can easily bribe a poor country to veto anti-China tariffs (Hungary).

Hungary will also get to access the Chinese market, and have their infrastructure built a third of the cost of European companies. Win win!

It's too late. The west already hyped up this sleaze bag Simon guy like some kind of hero who stood up to China willing to sacrificing millions Chinese money.
I had to put up with articles like these everyday.

View attachment 79632

Basically spinning and twisting facts.
Ignoring the fact china already suspended wta tournaments to protect their citizens from covid risk since it started. And those of us tennis fans familiar with wta know of this guy to be greedy money man who courted china hard before covid to get that huge Chinese investment. Outside of the slams, wta were either losing alot of money or not getting any investments at all in the rest of the world. Somehow this guy becomes a hero now lol.
This thing is so stupid to hear about over and over again.

Give her the benefit of the doubt and say she is truthful. Yet somehow there are 30,000 articles talking about the bravery of this rich white man who is simply giving up some money vs. Peng who according to him has given up her life. Enough with the white saviour complex already?

I also enjoy the wokeness of our white saviours pointing out the indignities they forced upon indigenous peoples in the past, yet somehow they have no issue with the WTA and EU issuing edicts to show Peng is safe on THEIR terms. Conveniently ignoring all the troublesome cultural context that entails.

Now let's put aside any geopolitics, history, race, or gender issues. Using only common sense and logic, this is a woman with wealth and means. Let's also assume she has half a brain. No one is so naive that they would think making a loaded public statement would not bring problems. If she feared for her life (or that of her cat and mother as the Daily Mail would have you believe), then she could simply have used her money to leave the country and make these denouncements where she is "safe".

What are their possible responses?

1. Respond as if the post was real:
- Doesn't matter what the response is, it will just cement in people's minds that Peng was sexually assaulted by Zhang. Even if the media plays up the consensual aspect, Zhang's reputation will be destroyed, and legally he would need to be investigated. All for a photoshop'd image.

2. Deny the post is real.
- What if Peng got compromised and went public with the claim that the post was real? Then the Chinese media would lose a huge amount of credibility. Peng isn't exactly trustworthy to start with (search for "我女儿是彭帅" to see what kind of mom she has).

To me, blaming her is irrelevant. If anything, the more Chinese people that share this feeling, the more articles you will see in the western news like "Chinese netizens engage in victim blaming in Peng Shuhai assault case".

Really this is just Chandran Nair's theory in action. (reference:

Prince Andrew, Trump, Clinton, all have had their questionable relationships, but no one ever called out a whole country for it.

There is a stereotype of native Indonesians as lazy too. Compared to the industrious and efficient Chinese Indonesians. Mostlyy I guess cause of their success as merchants and punching above their weight in business commerce. I wonder if it's also due to the similar bumiputera mindset and policy in the past.

Thats correct, native Indonesians Malays are lazy (ohhh wait, they are not really native, they are just another immigrant, just come earlier) compare to super efficient and hard working Indonesian Chinese.

But I don't believe because Chinese are far superior, the main reason is/was their mindset as an immigrant, they thought they have to work hard and better educated to compete. OTOH, the bumiputera/"native" is consistently brainwashed that they own the land, se, etc and "we" are very rich ... in essence, just don't do anything as we are "rich" ;)

If the worse came to the worst, there are things the U.S. could do to inflict attrition on China and rally opinion. In the longer term, this could include a program for gradual economic decoupling — something few countries are willing to consider today but that could be promoted as a geopolitical necessity in the wake of an attack. It could include a freeze on American assets in China and an end to dollar-based transactions. It could seek to confiscate selected Chinese-operated and -owned investments around the world. It could start a new effort to acquire iron-clad commitments to freeze Chinese information-technologies companies out of the digital infrastructures of other countries.
