Oh hohoho, Tsai herself has just come out and made a stink about the investigation against Far East Group. Looks like it's having the desired effect.

Tsai: how dare you use our publicly available political donation data against us!

Maybe the CCP doesn’t want mainland money to be spent on purchasing F-16V/Harpoons/M-1/Apaches? Shocker!

Taiwan Affairs Office changed their tone big time today. When asked what will be done with certain Taiwanese politican who are taunting and saying how come they're not on the Die Hard Secessionist list TAO spokesperson replied "Don't worry, they will get their own opportunity to feel sorry later."

TAO also made clear that plans are indeed being made right now for a cross strait rail link, to be completed by 2035.

Germany’s Social Democrats, Greens and liberals have reached a deal on forming a new government, paving the way for finance minister Olaf Scholz to succeed Angela Merkel as leader of Europe’s largest economy.
The Greens will get the foreign ministry and a newly created economy and climate protection ministry, while the FDP will take control of the finance ministry. The ministries of the interior, defence, construction, health and labour will go to the SPD.
Greens taking the foreign ministry

That means the CIA is taking charge. Surely the CIA is going to hold a neutral stance towards China...

In the post Peak world, a strong and prosperous EU, even if neutral or semi-friendly towards China, is not good for Chinese interests...
Same reason that I'm glad India joined the QUAD and didn't try to do the WinWin with China... This is now the game of negative sum game of ever shrinking pies where its basically squid game style of last man standing....

Thanks for the hint. Frankly I read very little of Joseph Nye's articles and if any, many years ago, thus I don't realize that he's considered as friendly to China.

Yet I remain clinging to my belief that Hard Power is the most important thing of all... as said repeatedly by some senior members here, some other nations may not like China, for 1001 reasons, but as long as they have fear to be nuisance or to disrupt or even come over China's territory to create trouble, such quality will be treasured by Chinese people, for the very obvious reason, due to the past very bleak history as of the 19th century, Taiwan and South China Sea matters. Perhaps sometime in the future, when China has regained all its required Hard Power, it can do better in the Soft Power areas. During this transformation era, the Hard Power is very crucial, it may be the existential determinant of the eventual status of the nation of China... be a strong, developed, prosperous and full sovereign state!
I'll just post this quote from the article linked above by Pres. Putin as my way to answer the soft power/hard power debate.

concept can be summed up in a joke he once told to reporters at an annual meeting. Asked about why the defense budget is important he told a story about an aging man and his son. The son tells his father that he has traded a knife for a new watch. The man looks at the watch and says it’s a nice watch, but cautions his son. “What if tomorrow bandits will come and rape your sister and kill me, and you’ll look down and be able to respond only with what time it is in Moscow.” Indeed, in place of the knife, the son will have only a watch to defend his family.

I don't see it as a post-peak world

In 5 years time, the economic pie can still be a lot bigger for everyone

I understand people wanting to purchase a petrol/diesel powered car have to get a permit/licence under a monthly lottery system. Is this permit a life time permit that allows an owner to purchase a replacement car over for a variety of reasons or only valid for the first purchase?
Sorry I do not know the answer. Maybe those from mainland can help answer this
