Oh hohoho, Tsai herself has just come out and made a stink about the investigation against Far East Group. Looks like it's having the desired effect.

Tsai: how dare you use our publicly available political donation data against us!
I don't follow this matter, or perhaps I missed it among the pile of posts in this section, is there any good news link on the corresponding action by mainland China previously? Long overdue, there should be a steep price to a choice, either pro-DPP / other independence leaning movement or biz opportunity in mainland China, can't have both!

Far East Group is the biggest source of political donation in Taiwan, with the majority going to DPP. Five provincial/municipal governments in mainland launched a simultaneous investigation against them and busted them big time for all sorts of illegal activities, all of which they pleaded guilty to.

Well, is there any Chinese language media reporting on this action? I wanna pass it to those Chinese-speaking folks who don't read English :) if you happen to know any.

Well, the Reuters piece 20211122:

I understand people wanting to purchase a petrol/diesel powered car have to get a permit/licence under a monthly lottery system. Is this permit a life time permit that allows an owner to purchase a replacement car over for a variety of reasons or only valid for the first purchase?
As far as I know (I am sorry if I am wrong), if you are a foreigner, you will have different type of license plate, so when you sell your car to a Chinese citizen, the plate number can not be transferable, he needs to register another plate number and your plate number recycle back to the system, but if you sell it to another foreigner, it can be transferable (I think because of how the licence plate format/looks). My car plate is white number on black background, which is different color if you are a Chinese citizen. I haven't bought another car, but I think you can just transfer that license plate to your new car if you want to change another car. It might also has different rules in different region, better to check with your local car dealer.

Why are they even allowed to operate in China? I hope they don't stop at fining them, just ban them completely - just like Taiwan does with a lot of Mainland exports and companies.

An interesting opinion piece

Shoigu said “This month, during the u.s Global Thunder strategic force exercise, 10 strategic bombers practiced the scenario of using nuclear weapons against russia practically simultaneously from the western and eastern directions,”

Sometimes you just have to wonder, does american leaders have rocks in their brain? Antagonising a nuclear superpower and an economic superpower at the same time, what do they expect will happen?

@Temstar Thanks for all the links!

“What exactly is the 'China threat'? The 'China threat' is China's existence. The United States will not tolerate the existence of a state that cannot be intimidated. That does not follow US orders but pursues its own course.”

~ NOAM CHOMSKY (born 1928) is a renowned American author, linguist, philosopher, cognitive scientist, historian, social critic, and political activist, sometimes called "the father of modern linguistics", slams Biden's hostile foreign policy and aggression towards China

There’s a saying in ancient China: 忘战必危,好战必亡!Forgetting war will lead to danger, and being warlike will lead to perishment!

He who doesn’t know history is doomed to repeat it!

“A nation founded on immutable concepts that has staggered into imperialist conquests and propagandist jingoism can only cast its soul back into the principles which founded it — or it is doomed to the dusts of history.”

Just to clear things up, I am not white worshiper. It is just happen that I know only Joseph Nye is the one who try to categorize types of power (hard power and soft power) and the combination of those is called smart power (I already link his article from nature before). I would consider Joseph Nye quite China friendly, if you search and read through many of his articles regarding China. He is a professor from Harvard University, a university that President Xi's daughter also attended. Eric Li, founder of guancha.cn, also frequently refer to Joseph Nye.

What we discussed and have differences is which one considered as hard/soft power, we can just agree to disagree.
Thanks for the hint. Frankly I read very little of Joseph Nye's articles and if any, many years ago, thus I don't realize that he's considered as friendly to China.

Yet I remain clinging to my belief that Hard Power is the most important thing of all... as said repeatedly by some senior members here, some other nations may not like China, for 1001 reasons, but as long as they have fear to be nuisance or to disrupt or even come over China's territory to create trouble, such quality will be treasured by Chinese people, for the very obvious reason, due to the past very bleak history as of the 19th century, Taiwan and South China Sea matters. Perhaps sometime in the future, when China has regained all its required Hard Power, it can do better in the Soft Power areas. During this transformation era, the Hard Power is very crucial, it may be the existential determinant of the eventual status of the nation of China... be a strong, developed, prosperous and full sovereign state!
