Controlling what citizens can and cannot read is never going to work. Chinese people are smart enough to make up their own minds.
Media control in China applies to both the educated and uneducated. There is no two tier access to information.Chinese civilization and governance, the Confucian scholar culture, it was always about control.
But first, we must understand this.
There are two levels of Chinese culture, one for the educated, and one for the uneducated. The uneducated were always more coarse and vulgar. The educated were more refined and had more noble pursuits, also the educated always ruled China. That was how it always was. Even Chairman Mao was a poet, and a good one too.
The point is, what was allowed to the educated, was not allowed to the uneducated. The Chinese Communist Party has upheld this ancient tradition.
But, today, the Chinese Communist Party is a lot smarter.
With the internet and mass communications, they only restrict it somewhat, and a lot of information gets through. However, they took the Confucian attitude that most people not interested in that stuff, the stuff that the educated are interested in, and the uneducated will do whatever they want, such as drink bleach or watch reality TV shows or talent singing dancing shows or those live streaming events selling product.
The party is in firm control, and doing it in a benign way, which is stunning. Everyone is happy for a change. That is not easy to do.
That is why only the educated can run China. Allow the uneducated to rule, there will be ten China's by next year.
So, the CCP, who are educated, are still controlling what the masses, who are the uneducated, control what they can see read or hear. But the rulers today take a relaxed attitude and do not restrict it that much, and allow access to information which the uneducated will not bother to digest. They're uneducated. They don't want to know anyways. If they do know, they might not have the brains to figure out what it means anyways.
It's what the CCP always says, the win-win solution.
You mean like those HK protesters who are easily brainwashed?Controlling what citizens can and cannot read is never going to work. Chinese people are smart enough to make up their own minds.
They are more like criminals or looters considering their actsYou mean like those HK protesters who are easily brainwashed?
HKers lived for 150 years under a different political system, so of course many are going to be resistant. It’s understandable. You mean like those HK protesters who are easily brainwashed?
Actually the anti mainland sentiment is much more recent, fueled by anti Chinese propaganda.HKers lived for 150 years under a different political system, so of course many are going to be resistant. It’s understandable.
For a long time HKers looked down on Mainlanders due to disparity in living standards. That sentiment has always been there. And many are scared of CCP rule due to Cultural Revolution, Tiananmen, etc etc.. none of those events are due to foreign anti-Chinese propaganda.Actually the anti mainland sentiment is much more recent, fueled by anti Chinese propaganda.
And rumors about Tanks smashing students are from the west in general, how are acting violently against your own and supporting a foreign backed ideology justifiable ? Would America accept a socialist America if Americans backed by Chinese were to charge the Capitol hill with a stolen IFV after murdering the crew and burning the guards alive under the name of free distribution for the lower class ? Wouldn't the west be screaming for CHINESE Propaganda ?For a long time HKers looked down on Mainlanders due to disparity in living standards. That sentiment has always been there.
