There goes hundreds of millions to a billion dollar repail bill...

Also probably many months to a year until it gets repaired
If this can happen to the USA like this during a not hot war situation, imagine what is going to happen for real when all USA ships are targeted. I wonder, how quickly can USA replace those ships and do they have enough resources to blow on a nation that is only 100 miles to the mainland and is armed with enough missiles to end the world if they should be pushed there. The USA needs to understand, Taiwan is not Afghanistan and the taiwanese are not warriors, the are shit posters most of the time that will fold the moment the Chinese military sets foot in Taiwan once their defenses have been bombed to kingdom come, besides has the USA installed any Patriot missiles in Taiwan lately, because if they did, well red line crossed and expect a lot of missiles to come quicker then the USA can send Yellen to beg China for economic help

well, I might be late, but I'm getting there. Now I'm even wondering about the "established facts" like Tiananmen and stuff. Am I being too paranoid or there's bottled smoke somewhere?

The government first sent in unarmed soldiers to clear the square of student demonstrators. Those soldiers were attacked by unknown assailants on their way to the square and several soldiers were killed. The government then sent in armed soldiers and armored columns. Those soldiers again clashed with assailants, this time resulting in numerous casualties for the assailants, but the clearing of the square was largely peaceful.

There are no definitive reports on who the assailants were, some say they were disgruntled factory workers.

: "A new Gallup poll has revealed that Americans have a consistent lack of trust in media, with more than three-quarters of the public not saying they had much confidence in newspapers or television news." (Emphasis added.)
When it comes to China the west will believe everything without objection despite whining about “fake news”; somehow this level of media distrust and critical thinking ceases when the topic is about China and Chinese ppl

Since whitehouse hasn't issued statements disavowing Japanese foreign ministry's public characterization of Biden Kishida's telephone call, it can be considered as a tacit agreement. Still this is ultimately a he said she said situation.
That's is typical diplomatic expression of "I will not confirm nor deny". Don't expect any further statement UNLESS somebody intentionally push for it. Tacit agreement, maybe, but one can also interpret it as silent disagreement. Not saying anything is just that, nothing changed in official stand. The US did that in case of Taiwan, after tough speech by someone, someone else came out saying "nothing changed" when pushed by China for clarification.

Historical case study. Soviet leader Khrushchev and defense minister visited China July 31st 1958. On August 23rd the first shell landed on Jin Men island (金门) controlled by Taiwan, intense bombardment lasted for two months. Soviet was never told of the imminent campaign by China although the Soviet leadership was very pissed off afterwards. Yet the image in American eyes are clear, the Soviet was behind it or at least not objecting. China deliberately chose the time to make it looked that way to the world to hold off any American intervention. Now put Japan in China's place and US in USSR's place, you will get the idea.
